Fulham vs Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Mar 5. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Fulham vs Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Mar 5. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

After a minor blip at the turn of the year, Fulham are firmly back in their stride and will have no fears about facing a Blackburn Rovers side occupying a play-off place as we head into the final dozen matchdays in the Championship season.

The Cottagers have won eight and lost just one of their ten league games in 2022, while Blackburn recovered from a poor run of form with a crucial home win over Queens Park Rangers in last weekend’s lunchtime kick-off.

The Rovers resurgence up the table at the backend of last year was triggered by a 7-0 home thumping by Fulham in November, which preceded a nine-game unbeaten run that took them into the top six and dreaming of an automatic promotion place.

But their momentum has been checked in recent weeks and our expert football betting tips point in the direction of a convincing home victory here.

Fulham to be Winning at Half-Time and Full-Time

The hosts have played two games more than second-placed Bournemouth, but with a nine-point cushion at the top of the table, they’ll feel confident that they can go on and secure the title.

And Marco Silva’s side have the best home record in the division at the time of writing, with 11 wins and 43 goals from their 18 matches at Craven Cottage, the latter of which is by far the highest home goal tally in the Championship.

And while Blackburn’s away record isn’t bad (it’s nothing special either, for what it’s worth), they’ve just started to lose their way at the wrong time. Their last victory on the road came in mid-January at struggling Cardiff and they haven’t even managed a goal in the five away games since.

Rovers don’t have a great record against this weekend’s opponents either, with just one win in their last seven meetings and just one success at Craven Cottage since 2009.

Fulham tend to be quick starters and like to go in for the kill early on. Three of their last four wins have seen them leading at the interval, so the price of 7/5 – available with Sportnation – for a Fulham Half-Time/Full-time victory looks a decent one.

Fulham Form, squad news, opinion

A run of four draws and one defeat in five games between November and Christmas had given the chasing pack hope that they could hunt down Fulham in the race for Premier League promotion.

But those aspirations were quickly dashed by a side boasting arguably the most ruthless striker in the division’s history in Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serbian already has 34 goals for the season – a record in the Championship era – and he’s almost certain to smash though the 40-goal barrier and set a high that will be difficult to reach in years to come.

Their defensive record is very good too, with only Bournemouth conceding fewer than their 29 goals this season, and that will almost certainly be surpassed by the Cherries when they play their games in hand.

Fulham are often mocked for being unable to bridge the Premier League gap, but they’re quite clearly too good for the second tier and should make easy work of Blackburn this weekend.

Blackburn Rovers Form, squad news, opinion

Boss Tony Mowbray will be desperate for the return of Chile forward Ben Brereton Diaz, despite his side beating QPR without him last weekend.

There are more strings to this bow, with the talented Brighton loanee Reda Khadra capable of lighting up any game, but with the German on five goals for the season and Sam Gallagher one ahead on six, they’re both streets behind BBD’s 20-goal haul.

Rovers have a four-point buffer between themselves and seventh-placed Sheffield United at present, but with the Blades having a game in hand, the battle for a play-off berth is set to intensify even further in the next few weeks.

And the Lancashire lads will need to do something about their goal-shy away form, which is has already brought their automatic promotion hopes to a halt and is now threatening to dump them out of the play-off race.

Aside from Brereton Diaz, Mowbray has no new injury concerns, but a host of players are just a yellow card away from suspension.

These two have had plenty of meetings down the years, with the first of their 94 clashes taking place more than a century ago in 1921.

Blackburn are ahead historically with 38 wins to Fulham’s 31, while a draw is no stranger to this fixture, with 25 stalemates.

About the Venue

Craven Cottage is one of the more intimate stadiums in English football, with fans packed close to the action in west London.

The ground currently holds less than 20,000 people, but renovation work is well underway to increase the capacity and improve local amenities surrounding the stadium.

Despite victories for both in their most recent outings, these are sides on very different trajectories at present.

Fulham will be fired up and know that only a handful of wins will have them back in the big time, while Blackburn have been sloppy on the road and look set for further away day woes at the toughest hunting ground in the league.
