Everton vs Chelsea in the Premier League on May 1. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Everton vs Chelsea in the Premier League on May 1. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

After starting last Sunday outside the bottom three, Everton now find themselves back in the Premier League relegation zone and with results going against them last weekend, they must now find some better fortune at home.

Which means if they are to climb themselves out of such an unwanted position, then they will need to get the better of Chelsea for starters and with the West London outfit still needing to secure a top-four finish, they may not be ready to roll out the red carpet just yet.

Everton Double Chance

Quite frankly, Everton have to play better than they did last Sunday, and this is something that manager Frank Lampard will be very much aware of before the visit of Chelsea to Goodison Park.

With that said, Everton have certainly been better at home than they have been away, and this is something that I have taken into consideration when looking at the biggest and best betting sites online.

quotes
While with Chelsea lacking some spark in recent weeks, I think Everton can get at least a point to help their quest for survival and this is why I am backing them in the double chance market at odds of 5/4 (bet365).

Everton Form, squad news, opinion

Going into this round of fixtures, Everton find themselves lying two points behind Burnley in 18th and although they have a game in hand over the Clarets, their situation could worsen before Sunday’s meeting with Chelsea.

Because if Burnley get the better of Watford the day before, the advantage between the two sides would be five points and although safety would still be in Everton’s hands, it will serve to offer a further psychological blow.

One that Everton also seemingly suffered in the Merseyside derby and after playing to simply avoid defeat rather than to win the game itself, you get the feeling that damage limitation was the main priority for the Toffees.

With goal difference almost acting as the equivalent of another point at the bottom of the table, the last thing that Everton could afford was a three or even four-nil defeat to their nearest neighbours.

Which means even though they avoided a real thrashing, they still managed to cross Merseyside with nothing to show for their efforts and coming away empty handed, has been a fundamental issue for Everton this season.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Chelsea, life gets no easier for manager Frank Lampard and with Tom Davies, Cenk Tosun, Yerry Mina, Andros Townsend, Nathan Patterson and Donny van de Beek all likely to be on the sidelines, the Everton boss will have a huge selection headache before the weekend.

Chelsea Form, squad news, opinion

After visiting Manchester on Thursday night, Chelsea continue their tour of the North West with a trip to Merseyside and with Everton acting as the opposition, they will look to heap more misery on the Goodison Park outfit.

While although that may seem to be the case, there is a concern over current Chelsea motivation and amongst the backdrop of ownership bids, there is a sense that the Blues are going through the motions.

Because even though they are more than capable of picking up wins in both league and cup, there is certainly a spark missing from the Chelsea side and you only have to look at their recent defeat to Arsenal as evidence of this.

In a microcosm this is how off the boil Chelsea have been in recent weeks and although the 6-0 thrashing of Southampton was a recent antidote to this, it does suggest that this team has the propensity to blow hot and cold in equal measures.

Something that Thomas Tuchel will have to get to the bottom of and with an FA Cup final appearance waiting just around the corner, those within the Chelsea squad will also be looking to guarantee a place in the Wembley starting eleven.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Everton, manager Thomas Tuchel has one new concern before the weekend and with Ben Chilwell already ruled out, midfielder Mateo Kovacic could also be on the sidelines.

History

When it comes to the history of Everton and Chelsea, it is the Blues who have come out on top more often than not. Although with Frank Lampard now managing the Toffees, he will hope that one of his former employers can do him a huge favour at the weekend.

pointer right
In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Everton have won on 58 occasions, Chelsea 74 and there have been 55 draws.

About the Venue

Goodison Park opened in 1892 and holds up to 39,571 supporters.

While that capacity crowd would have been in full voice recently, as Everton got the better of Manchester United and it just goes to show that when the Toffees’ fanbase is on the side of the team, they can be a huge help.

However, when things do go wrong and they have gone wrong on plenty of occasions this season, the ground can also be known for being rather inhospitable to those who wear Everton’s famous colours.

Conclusion

When it comes to the outright odds for Premier League relegation, Everton now find themselves in something of a real bind and with their odds shortening after the weekend, they are once again favourites for the drop.

quotes
While when it comes to Chelsea, a top-four finish is not confirmed just yet and although they look like certainties to return to the Champions League, it does not translate into betting value anymore.
