Crystal Palace vs Manchester City in the Premier League on Mar 14. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City in the Premier League on Mar 14. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Before Thursday night’s Premier League action takes place, Crystal Palace currently find themselves lying in the top half of the table and with cup progress also under their belts, it looks as if Patrick Vieria is continuing to silence any remaining detractors.

While he will also look to silence Manchester City on Monday night and after already masterminding an impressive win against Pep Guardiola’s men this season, the Eagles will look to land an unlikely double over the current Premier League leaders.

Both Teams To Score

After taking a look at the biggest betting sites online, there are a couple of markets that have taken my fancy and although Manchester City are favourites to get a win on Monday, Selhurst Park is always a tricky place to travel to.

Especially as Palace themselves are in a rich vein of league and cup form at the moment and this means the actual outcome at the start of next week, is one that might just be a little difficult to get right.

Therefore, I have plumped for goals on Monday and if like me, you also think that both teams will score at least once in South London, you can back this outcome at 1/1 (SportNation) - an inviting opportunity to double your money.

Crystal Palace Form, squad news, opinion

Only a couple of weeks ago, there was every chance that Crystal Palace could find themselves at the top end of a rather congested relegation battle and this was due to a run of games without a league win.

A run that has not only come to an end, but a positive run has been created instead and with the South London outfit having picked up seven points from the last nine on offer, the target of a top-ten finish is a rather realistic one.

Because although the focus has largely been placed upon the duo of Conor Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha this season, it is Michael Olise that is generating the headlines for Palace in recent weeks.

The winger has been an instrumental part of the Eagles’ rise back up the league table and subsequent progress to the last eight of the F.A. Cup and with he and his teammates just one game away from a Wembley trip, that is another objective that they will soon look to achieve.

Which means it is a rather exciting time to be a fan of Crystal Palace and with Patrick Vieria placing his own ideas on a team that was previously rather defensive, the transformation has been one that even neutrals are enjoying unfolding.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Manchester City, there are no new concerns for Patrick Vieria to worry about and this means the Palace squad is at full strength before Monday.

Manchester City Form, squad news, opinion

Although Manchester City were held to a goalless draw in midweek, it means little in the grand scheme of things and with a 5-0 nil lead already in their pocket against Sporting, their Champions League meeting at the Etihad was a rather drab affair.

Now though, the focus switches quickly back to matters in the Premier League and with Liverpool playing Brighton two days earlier, there is every chance that City’s gap at the top could be cut to three points by Monday evening.

If that is the case, it will ask another question of Pep Guardiola’s men and with the two teams set to push each other all the way, dropping points is certainly not on the agenda for either City or their nearest rivals.

Of course, there was nothing in the way of dropped points last weekend, as City steamrolled their Manchester neighbours at the Etihad and when everything clicks on the field, performances such as last Sunday’s can come about with ease.

While there is no doubt that Monday could provide something of a banana skin at Selhurst Park and if City are to keep hold of their Premier League crown, these are the kind of meetings that they simply must win.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Crystal Palace, there is only one major injury concern for Pep Guardiola and with Ruben Dias picking up a knock last week, he is likely to be unavailable on Monday.

When it comes to the history of these two sides, it is Manchester City who have come out on top more often. However, one must not forget Palace’s sensational victory at the Etihad - one where they ran out 2-0 winners last October.

In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Crystal Palace have won on 17 occasions, Manchester City 35 and there have been 14 draws

About the Venue

When it comes to stadiums within the Premier League, there are certainly shinier venues than Selhurst Park. Although with that said, the Palace fanbase, are also one of the noisiest in the division.

With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in England, it means there is no longer the need to show a Vaccine Passport before attending the ground. Which means, match tickets are the only item that is required to be produced at the time of writing.

When looking at the Premier League odds for a top-ten finish, Crystal Palace are currently good value to stay out of the bottom half and if they can get at least a point against Manchester City, it will help their cause considerably.

While a point will not be all that much use for City and if they do slip up at the start of next week, it will likely change the odds in the current outright market. Which means, backing Liverpool might just be the preferred direction of travel.
