Crystal Palace vs Leeds in the Premier League on Apr 25. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

After suffering the disappointment of Wembley defeat, things got no better for Crystal Palace in midweek and after travelling all the way to Newcastle, they would return to South London empty handed.

While this coming Monday sees them play host to a resurgent Leeds outfit and with Jesse Marsch overseeing a positive run of results, Premier League survival is now in touching distance.

Over 2.5 Goals

With both teams languishing in the bottom bracket of the Premier League, this could be a difficult one to call and this is something that I have considered when looking at all the best betting sites online.

Because although the final outcome could be hard to predict, there is one statistic that stands out from the most and with 15 of Leeds’s last 18 games ending with over 2.5 goals, this is my direction of travel for Monday night.

Which means if you want to join me in backing a total of over 2.5 goals at Selhurst Park, you can do so at odds of 4/5 (bet365) and at that price, it is certainly worth some consideration at the start of next week.

Crystal Palace Form, squad news, opinion

The positive outlook that was overwhelming Crystal Palace has seemingly dissipated in the past week or so and not only have the Eagles been deprived a return to Wembley, but they have also fallen out of the top half of the Premier League table.

Because going into this extended weekend of league fixtures, Palace have slumped to as low as 15th and if Aston Villa were to get the better of Leicester on Saturday, Patrick Vieria’s men would drop down a further rung on the league ladder.

Going into this game, Palace have lost their last three matches in all competitions. With that, they have learned the hard way, that losing two in a row in the Premier League can quickly change the complexion of your campaign.

Of course, there is always a flipside to this, and back-to-back wins can quickly shoot you further up the table and the first of those successes, is what is on Palace’s agenda this Monday evening.

Especially as a 15th place finish or worse would not be a fair reflection of what has happened at Selhurst Park this season and although they have never been in a relegation battle at any point, they certainly deserve to place higher in the final standings.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Leeds, there are no new concerns for manager Patrick Vieria to deal with and this means that Crystal Palace will have a clean bill of health on Monday night.

However, star midfielder Conor Gallagher must be careful not to pick up another yellow card and if he does, he will subsequently serve a disciplinary suspension.

Leeds Form, squad news, opinion

Like Crystal Palace, Leeds were inactive in the previous Premier League weekend and although an element of rest will have been welcomed, it may also serve to halt the momentum that has currently been generated at Elland Road.

Momentum that comes in the shape of 10 points from the last 12 on offer and courtesy of such a run, Leeds have managed to pull themselves clear from danger. While in doing so, the decision to install Jesse Marsch as manager is looking all the more inspired.

Because there was no doubt his installation is something of a gamble and with teams towards the bottom having to roll the dice more than those at the top, gambles of this nature can spectacularly backfire.

Something that could well be the case at relegation rivals Burnley and if their managerial gambles does backfire, then it will only serve to help Leeds breathe slightly easier between now and the end of the season.

However, that is not to say that this fixture is a dead rubber, if anything far from it and with the Leeds owners wanting to earn as much prize money as possible, a win over Crystal Palace will be highly welcomed.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Crystal Palace, there are no new concerns for manager Jesse Marsch to deal with. However, that does not mean that Leeds are at full strength either and with the trio of Raphinia, Kalvin Phillips and Robin Koch out injured, this will certainly be a blow before Monday evening.

History

When it comes to the history of Crystal Palace and Leeds, it is the Elland Road outfit who have come out on top more often than not. Then again, it must be noted that the Eagles have only lost one of the last seven meetings between the two.

pointer right
In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Crystal Palace have won on 18 occasions, Leeds 31 and there have been 16 draws.

About the Venue

Selhurst Park opened in 1924 and holds up to 26,047 supporters.

Selhurst Park is one of the smaller stadiums within the Premier League and is not what you could consider a modern-day football ground. However, there are plans to expand on the capacity and renovate the main stand. Should these go ahead, then the location will be far more modernised.

With that said, the Holmesdale Ultras are known for lending their voice to the club on match days and when they are in full voice, Selhurst Park can be considered as one of the noisier grounds within the Premier League.

Conclusion

When it comes to the outcome of this one, there is not a great deal of importance when it comes to the outright market and with Crystal Palace dropping down to 14th, a top-ten finish looks like it may well slip out of the Eagles’ hands.

quotes
While when it comes to the relegation odds, Leeds’s price has lengthened considerably in the past few weeks and with safety all but secure, the focus for punters will pivot to short-term bets instead.
