Crystal Palace vs Chelsea in the Premier League on Feb 19. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea in the Premier League on Feb 19. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

With no win in their last five league outings, things are starting to get a little tense for Crystal Palace and although they are in no immediate danger of relegation, they cannot afford to be relaxed either.

Especially as the newly crowned Club World Cup winners come to town on Saturday and with a trip to Abu Dhabi behind them, Chelsea will look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.

Both Teams To Score - Yes

In terms of who will come out on top on Saturday, all signs point to Chelsea, and this is confirmed by looking at all the best betting sites on the internet today. Which also means, simply backing the Blues will not offer much in the way of value.

Therefore, when looking at the best odds for this London derby, it is the Both Teams To Score market that has caught my eye and although Crystal Palace have had their issues in front of goal, I do at least fancy them to score once at the weekend.

Which is why both teams to score at odds of 97/100 with Sportnation , is so tempting and if like me, you think that the Eagles will at least find some joy in front of goal, then this tip is worth backing on Saturday.

Crystal Palace Form, squad news, opinion

After playing out a goalless draw at Brentford last weekend, Crystal Palace’s recent woes have now continued and although they are making continued progress in the F.A. Cup, the same cannot be said for the Premier League.

Because after failing to win any of their last five league outings, they are now looking over their shoulders rather than up the table and if their current trajectory continues, it could mean a rather nervy end to the season.

Admittedly there are far worse teams than Palace in the division and that is something that will at least give manager Patrick Vieria some form of solace, as he searches for what is becoming an ever-elusive win.

However, just like how Everton found out before them, you cannot simply rest on your laurels in the Premier League and if results continue to go against you, you will eventually be dragged into the relegation mix.

Which is why the visit of Chelsea this weekend, is something that they can clearly do without and especially as manager Vieria cannot rely on midfielder Conor Gallagher. With the England international being in fantastic form since his loan move from Chelsea, he is unable to face his parent club on Saturday.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Chelsea, Patrick Vieria will be pleased at the fact that there are no current concerns, and this means bar the unforced absence of Gallagher, he has a full squad which is fit and raring to go.

Chelsea Form, squad news, opinion

After winning the Club World Cup last Saturday, Chelsea have now won every tournament that is possible for them to capture, and this trophy haul has all come since the arrival of owner Roman Abramovich.

Although another trinket is certainly to be celebrated, it is the bigger prizes that will only truly satisfy ‘Uncle Roman’ and with the Premier League now eluding the Blues for another season, Thomas Tuchel will have two main objectives.

The first of those is to make sure that Chelsea manage to stay in the top-four of the Premier League - although with the clubs below them continually fluffing their lines, that should not be all that difficult.

While the second task, is to hold on to the Champions League crown that they won at the end of last season and with the Blues set to return to European action soon, more continental success is not out of the question.

With that said, Chelsea still need to worry about affairs back home and although they are officially the best club in the world right now, one could argue that they limped to victory in both the Club World Cup Semi-final and final.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Crystal Palace, after picking up an injury in the United Arab Emirates, England international Mason Mount is unlikely to be fit for Saturday’s short trip to Selhurst Park. While defender Ben Chilwell is once again a long-term absentee.

As far as history is concerned, this is one of the more interesting London rivalries and although Chelsea have had the lion’s share when it comes to victories, Crystal Palace have been known to get a result or two in the past.

In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Crystal Palace have won on 12 occasions, Chelsea 32 and there have been 15 draws

About the Venue

Although there are plans to renovate Selhurst Park, the stadium has been largely unchanged in the past couple of decades and with the South London venue playing home to some of the country's loudest fans, they will be ready to welcome the visit of Chelsea this weekend.

With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in England, it means there is no longer the need to show a Vaccine Passport before attending the ground. Which means, match tickets are the only item that is required to be produced at the time of writing.

It is not quite a must win game for Crystal Palace, but you get the feeling that they are going to need to find a victory soon - if only to ease any simmering tension that may be forming within South London.

While as far as Chelsea are concerned, third place now looks locked in and if there is one thing that manager Thomas Tuchel must be concerned about, it is trying to keep his players motivated within the confines of this season’s Premier League.
