Before the midweek schedule of Premier League fixtures, Crystal Palace had failed to win any of their last six outings and as a consequence were beginning to slide back down the table.
Which means their hosting of Burnley, is one that takes on extra importance this weekend and if the Clarets can pick up a second away win in the space of the week, it will give their chances of survival a huge boost.
There is something not quite right about Crystal Palace at the moment and with results largely going against them, I think there could be more bad news for the Eagles this Saturday afternoon.
Because with Burnley being boosted by their trip to Brighton seven days previously, they will look to do more of the same and although a win may just pass them by, a share of the points will not.
Which means the best odds for at least a Burnley draw are currently 19/20 with bet365 and with an opportunity to almost double your money on this outcome, it is not one that you should be overlooking.
Although there is not a huge panic at Crystal Palace at present, there is no doubt that results have gone against them in recent times, and this means the Eagles are not flying as high as they once were.
Not only that, but with the relegation battle intensifying below them, Patrick Vieria’s men are no longer in the category of safe mid-table teams and if results do not improve, there is every chance that they could be dragged deeper into proceedings.
Admittedly Palace have been unfortunate during the recent run of unwanted results – one that has seem fail to win any of their last six league outings and this is highlighted by their recent 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Selhurst Park.
A loss that once again magnified the biggest issue for Palace this season and this has been a lack of game management in the final few minutes of league business, as they once again shipped a late and rather costly goal.
There is no doubt that the football on show at Selhurst Park has been much easier on the eye this season and as a club progress is being made overall. Now though, Patrick Vieria must make sure that progress is also being made up the league table.
In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Burnley, there are no new concerns for Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieria to deal with and that means his full focus can be placed on trying to get the better of Burnley.
After a stunning 3-0 win away at Brighton last weekend, a new lease of life has been blown into Burnley’s season and with them still possessing games in hand over their two direct relegation rivals, the Clarets may hold all the aces in the battle to avoid the drop.
Because with that win over Brighton, the glass half empty has now become the glass half full and after also holding Manchester United to a draw at home and pushing Liverpool in defeat at the same venue, last Saturday’s victory was their just deserves.
With manager Sean Dyche showing the epitome of calm in the press conference after, the message coming out of the Burnley camp has always been a clear and consistent one and it is one that suggests that there is no need to panic.
For the simple reason that Dyche and Burnley have been here before and because of their previous experience at the bottom end of the table, they know exactly what it takes to get out of the relegation zone.
Especially with more games to be played than the teams above them and if they can pick up points in those encounters, then the plight of the Clarets will have only gone on to improve further.
In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Crystal Palace, the same can be said for Burnley and this means manager Sean Dyche will be primed and ready to pick up maximum points in South London.
As far as Premier League rivalries go, this is not necessarily the most keenly anticipated one and it is a fixture that is usually lacking in terms of entertainment for the neutral. However, this clash will be just as important to fans of both Crystal Palace and Burnley.
In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Crystal Palace have won on 13 occasions, Burnley 21 and there have been 18 draws
Selhurst Park is one of the lesser venues within the confines of the Premier League and although it lacks something in the way of attractiveness, its supporters are still known to make plenty of noise in South London.
With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in England, it means there is no longer the need to show a Vaccine Passport before attending the ground. Which means, match tickets are the only item that is required to be produced at the time of writing.
When looking at the Premier League relegation odds, Crystal Palace could be one of the value picks at present and if their form does not improve soon, then their odds will shorten further.
While Saturday’s opponents Burnley will be hoping that another win on the road helps their own survival bid and if they do win in South London, their odds for relegation will only lengthen at the same time.
