Both these teams have top-ten aspirations, both these teams are on something of an upward swing after a period of going backwards and with these two teams being rather alike, it may be hard to break the deadlock on Sunday.

Something that I have taken into consideration when looking at all the biggest and best online betting sites and with the pair of Brighton and Southampton aiming for the same prize, stalemate could be on the weekend agenda.

Then again, that large majority were seemingly wrong and after getting the better of Arsenal last weekend, the Saints have found an element of impetus to their season - one that was certainly lacking just weeks before.

Admittedly Southampton have achieved their primary target and that is securing Premier League survival and any drop off in performance, can at least be mitigated by such a circumstance.

With that said, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will not want to simply make up the numbers in the Premier League and with this club also having ambitions of breaking the European glass ceiling, they must be seen to be making progress.

Because without that, the ambition that the Saints hang on is that and nothing more and if they can finish in the top-ten come the end of the season, it will at least show that they are marching in the right direction.

When it comes to the history of Brighton and Southampton, it is the Saints who have come out on top more often than not. While with the two now contesting their recent battles in the Premier League, this is a rivalry that is starting to get a little more intense.

In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Brighton have won on 21 occasions, Southampton 36 and there have been 19 draws.

While the construction of the stadium is also symbolic of Brighton’s progress as a football club and when you consider that 25 years ago, they did not even have a ground of their own, The AMEX is a welcome sight for all Brighton’s supporters.

When it comes to the Premier League outright odds, the only thing that will be of interest to both Brighton and Southampton will be the top-ten finish market and with both clubs going through a small revival of fortunes, this is a rather obtainable target.

Which means there will be more than local bragging rights on offer this weekend and if either the Seagulls or the Saints come out on top, their odds in the top-ten finish market will only shorten further.
