Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Feb 5. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Feb 5. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Saturday evening sees a tasty clash between two in-form Bundesliga sides. Bayern Munich are well on their way to another German top flight title, whereas opponents RB Leipzig will have their eyes set on a top four finish.

The hosts’ last home game saw them suffer a surprising defeat at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach, so they’ll be looking to make amends for that loss in front of a limited Allianz Arena crowd.

Leipzig are in good heart heading into this, having won four on the spin, but they know full well what can happen if Bayern are at the top of their game - having lost 4-1 in their last meeting in September.

  • Kindly note that all information in this preview, including whether or not the event will take place, is subject to change due to Covid-19.

Bayern Munich To Win By One Goal

Leipzig certainly have enough about them to cause Bayern a few problems, especially considering the confidence they’ll play with, given the run they're on.

We don’t quite see that being enough for them to get anything out of the game, but they should make it a pretty tight affair.

In the two games either side of their defeat against Monchengladbach, Munich won by three goals or more. Leipzig should put up a decent fight here, though, so the hosts shouldn’t find things so easy. The visitors have kept a clean sheet in their last three games in all competitions. Domenico Tedesco has his side well organised and they won’t be easy to break down.

The home side are a totally different test compared to their recent opponents, however, and their quality is likely to see them through to another three points.

With everything considered, a narrow victory could be on the cards for the Bavarians, so Bayern Munich To Win By One Goal, which is available at odds of 3/1 with 888, is the selection.

Bayern Munich, squad news, opinion

We’re past the halfway point in the Bundesliga season and it’s no surprise to see Bayern with a fairly comfortable lead at the top of the table.

It’s currently a six-point gap between them and closest rivals Borussia Dortmund, but it’s pretty rare for the Bavarians to drop points, so it looks a tough ask at the moment for Dortmund to topple them.

They did show they can occasionally throw in a bit of a below par performance, though, when falling to a 2-1 loss against Gladbach.

Since then, they’ve taken their frustrations out on FC Cologne and Hertha Berlin respectively, smashing four past both. Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick against Cologne, taking his total for the season to an extremely impressive 34 goals from 28 appearances.

With both of their countries reaching the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, Eric Maxim Chupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr will both be unavailable. Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzla are other significant absentees for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

RB Leipzig, squad news, opinion

Die Roten Bullen currently sit in 6th place in the Bundesliga - three points off 4th, and they also have a healthy goal difference to boot.

A Champions League qualification spot certainly looks a realistic target for Tedesco’s men.

They’ve won all of their last four games, beating Mainz, Stuttgart and Wolfsburg in the league, and Hansa Rostock in the cup.

Their away form in the Bundesliga has been a bit patchy, however, and that has to be a worry for them heading to the toughest place to visit in German football.

Leipzig have won just one of their last twelve on their travels in the league, losing seven games in that time.

The visitors could be without Emil Forsberg (thigh), and Marcel Halstenberg (knee) for this one.

History

This is a fixture Leipzig haven’t had too much joy in, in their short history as a club. The two have only met on thirteen occasions before, with Leipzig managing just the sole victory in that time - back in 2018.

They have secured a few draws against Bayern recently, though, with four of the last seven clashes ending in stalemates.

Munich have won the last two between the pair, including a 4-1 victory at the Red Bull Arena earlier this season. Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane and Chupo-Moting gave Bayern a comfortable victory.

About the Venue

Arguably one of the prettiest stadiums in football, the Allianz Arena has distinctive plastic panels on the outside, and it’s the first ground in the world with a full colour-changing exterior.

The stadium holds 75,024 and has small standing areas. You can usually rely on a vibrant atmosphere from the Bayern faithful, but with Covid restrictions in Germany, only a maximum of 10,000 fans are permitted currently.

Conclusion

This is a game that is likely to be pretty close, given both sides are in good form. It’s hard to see beyond a Bayern win if they're anywhere near their best, but with Leipzig being solid at the back lately, they should keep things respectable when it comes to the scoreline.
