Aston Villa vs Watford in the Premier League on Feb 19. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

Aston Villa vs Watford in the Premier League on Feb 19. 2022 - Odds & Prediction

After picking up just a point from their last two Premier League outings, it has not been the best of weeks for Aston Villa and after a poor points return, they now find themselves starting the weekend lying 12th in the table.

Then again, that is a position that Watford would love to currently possess in the Premier League table and with Roy Hodgson only earning a solitary point from three attempts, there has been nothing in the way of a new manager bounce at Vicarage Road.

Watford Win

Going into this weekend’s Premier League action, the equation for Watford is largely simple and it is one that suggests that they are going to have to find a Premier League win in double quick time.

Especially as the Hornets have failed to win any of their last 11 Premier League outings and because of this run of results, things have started to get rather bleak for the Vicarage Road outfit.

However, I am a great believer that all runs have to end eventually and with Aston Villa misfiring as of late, this could be the game in which Roy Hodgson reminds everybody of his managerial worth. A worth that is currently at 5/1 with LeoVegas for a Watford win on Saturday.

Aston Villa Form, squad news, opinion

It has not been the best of times for Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard, as he has recently witnessed his side give up a 3-1 lead at home to Leeds and then subsequently lose 1-0 away at Newcastle.

A pair of results which has seen both Southampton and Leicester progress ahead of them and although slipping to 12th place may be somewhat galling for the former Liverpool midfielder, a top-half position can just as easily be earned back.

Because there is no doubt that the battle for 10th and a top-half finish, is one that is going to be rather volatile and with inconsistency largely being the order of the day, the ownership of that position will largely chop and change.

With that said, the best way to navigate past that volatility, is by returning to winning ways and with Philippe Coutinho making a rather smooth return to the Premier League, it is as if the Brazilian was made for this league and this league only.

Then again, it is not all down to the Barcelona loanee and with the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins to support him, these three will be primed and ready to get the better of Watford this weekend.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Watford, Steven Gerrard only has the one injury to deal with and that is the continued absence of Marvelous Nakamaba, as the midfielder is not set to return for another month.

Watford Form, squad news, opinion

Has the gamble from the Watford board already backfired? That is a question that many will be asking and with Roy Hodgson yet to truly show his managerial magic, Watford are now firmly in the Premier League relegation zone.

With just one point earned from the nine that were offered to Hodgson, there are only small steps being taken by his newly inherited Watford squad and this is a time when giant leaps need to be made instead.

Especially as the teams above them are now starting to wake up and with both Newcastle and Norwich managing to earn recent wins for themselves, it has only worsened the plight of the Hornets.

A plight that was magnified last Saturday, as Watford suffered a 2-0 loss to Brighton at Vicarage Road and if the club are to avoid a return to the EFL Championship, they are going to need to make their home ground a fortress.

Of course, it is not just at home where they will have to earn points and now the hard work will begin. Because it is not just about earning draws on the road but more importantly wins and their herculean task can start no sooner than this weekend.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Aston Villa, manager Roy Hodgson has no additional concerns after the Hornets’ defeat to Brighton at the weekend and this means the pair of Peter Etebo and Kwadwo Baah are still missing.

History

As far as the history of these two clubs are concerned, there is not a great deal to talk about and perhaps surprisingly, it is Watford who have come out on top on more occasions than their weekend opposition.

In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Aston Villa have won on 8 occasions, Watford 9 and there have been 5 draws

About the Venue

Although Villa Park has been home to headline football events in the past, it is a stadium of perhaps a more bygone era and although there is a lot of history contained within this location, there are much more shinier stadiums these days.

With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in England, it means there is no longer the need to show a Vaccine Passport before attending the ground. Which means, match tickets are the only item that is required to be produced at the time of writing.

Conclusion

When looking at the Premier League odds for relegation, the bookmakers believe Watford are now in all kinds of trouble and although they have named three different managers this season, their luck is certainly running out.

Something that Aston Villa will look to take advantage of at the weekend and with Steven Gerrard now getting fully used to the rigorous world of Premier League management, he will be tasked with returning his team to victory once again.
