Aston Villa vs Norwich in the Premier League on Apr 30.2022 - Odds & Prediction

Aston Villa vs Norwich in the Premier League on Apr 30.2022 - Odds & Prediction

Although Aston Villa ended their run of Premier League defeats at the weekend, they are still without a win in five attempts and with that in mind, their season is now beginning to look rather underwhelming.

However, Saturday could provide the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways and with former Villa boss Dean Smith now in the Norwich dugout, this should also make for a rather interesting subplot.

Aston Villa And Under 2.5 Goals

Although this is almost the last chance saloon for Norwich, I cannot see anything in the way of Saturday salvation and that is even when you consider how out of sorts Aston Villa have been in recent weeks.

Because even though Norwich are fighting for their lives, they are clearly lacking the stomach for survival, and this is something that I have taken into consideration when looking at the biggest and best betting sites online.

quotes
Which means I not only envisage Aston Villa to find a first win in six Premier League attempts but there will only be two total goals at most and if you think that this will also be the case, you can join in me in backing this outcome at odds of 11/4 (bet365).

Aston Villa Form, squad news, opinion

Just one point from the last 15 on offer, that is the tale of the Aston Villa tape right now. A tale that manager Steven Gerrard will look to end this weekend and with his charges now languishing in 15th, an end of season boost will be welcomed.

Then again, although 15th in the table is hard for the ex-Liverpool midfielder to stomach, one must remember that the West Midlands outfit were a position worse off by the time Gerrard was installed as manager.

Not only that, but when Aston Villa did decide to end the tenure of former boss Dean Smith, he had just overseen a fifth successive defeat in the Premier League and it was at this stage, that the owners decided to pull the plug.

With the installation of Villa’s latest boss taking place before the turn of the year, it is perhaps a little too early to judge the current incumbent on how he has done and especially with just one transfer window to work in.

Then again, the same courtesy will not be afforded to Gerrard next season and if Villa do not get a quick start out of the blocks, the former Rangers boss will start to feel some pressure on his shoulders.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the visit of Norwich, there is only one issue for manager Steven Gerrard to deal with and that is the continual absence of French defender Lucas Digne.

Norwich Form, squad news, opinion

Although Norwich are not mathematically down yet, they are desperately running out of time to save themselves and if results going against them at the weekend, relegation could happen as soon as this.

Because after Dean Smith’s men suffered a defeat at home to Newcastle on Saturday, Burnley recorded a hugely important win at home to Wolves and this means that are now 10 points between the two clubs.

Which means if Norwich lose at the weekend, a Burnley win at Vicarage Road that same afternoon would extend the gap to 13 points and from there, only four Premier League outings would remain.

While even if Burnley were to win at the weekend, a draw for Norwich would only delay matters by a few days and with Dean Smith’s men having a far worse goal difference than that of the Clarets, it really is win or bust this weekend.

While when it comes to wins, Norwich have only won once during their last six attempts and perhaps more importantly, they have only won five Premier League encounters - a tally which has caused the problem they currently find themselves in.

In terms of injuries and suspensions for the trip to Aston Villa, the injuries are now starting to stack up for manager Dean Smith and with both Adam Idah and Ozan Kabak already ruled out, Josh Sargeant now looks set to join them on the sidelines.

History

When it comes to the history of Aston Villa and Norwich, it is this weekend’s hosts who have come out on top more often than not. While the Villa Park outfit have also won each of their last three encounters with the Canaries.

pointer right
In terms of their overall head-to-head record, Aston Villa have won on 35 occasions, Norwich 22 and there have been 16 draws.

About the Venue

Villa Park opened in 1897 and holds up to 42,682 supporters.

When it comes to the home of Aston Villa, their Villa Park stadium is one of the oldest in the country and although the West Midlands outfit may have won the European Cup in 1982, it has not seen anything near that level of success since.

With that said, the current Villa owners are not short of a penny or two and with the building blocks being seemingly put in place, a return to European football is very much their desire in the next few years.

Conclusion

When looking at the current situation for Aston Villa, there is not much reason to back them and with a top-ten finish now looking like something which has passed them by, their only objective will be to move a couple of places up the table.

quotes
While when it comes to the Premier League relegation odds at the time of writing, there will need to be a miracle for Norwich to survive and with time running out, it looks as if the trapdoor will soon open up below.
