These two shocked two of the best quarterbacks we have ever seen play the game last week, and both did it in very different styles.
The 49ers took care of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, slowing down one of the best offensive groups in the league, and keeping Rodgers out of the game for large periods of it.
The Rams took the game to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, built up a huge lead, and then let that slip in the closing stages. We were all expecting a Brady special and a comeback win. However, credit to the Rams, they showed excellent character and Matthew Stafford led them up the field to win the game with a field goal in the closing seconds of the game.
That takes them both forward to the NFC Championship game and here is our game preview.
The Rams have the ability to score very well, but as we’ve seen recently, the 49ers can keep games very close and work hard to limit the opposition. We see no difference here - the 49ers are going to control this game, and they are going to limit the score to make this quite a low scoring, chess-like contest.
However, when it comes to moments of quality and greatness to win a game, the play the LA Rams completed at the end of their game last week, to win it, sticks in the mind. The Rams are playing very well and have a number of players who can do something very special with just one play.
We respect what the 49ers can do, and think they will keep it close, but perhaps not close enough, so our fancy here is for the Rams to win the game by a narrow margin. That takes us to the winning margin betting lines, where we are going to pick the LA Rams to win by 1-6 points, available at 16/5 with bet365.
The Rams have shown us over two weeks now that they have an excellent offensive group. Even when they were struggling against the Buccs last weekend, and looked like fading and losing the game, key players, Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp took them up field and into field goal range to score the winning kick.
But in the 49ers they face the best defence they have tackled in the post season, so the Rams are going to have to be at their best. We think they will be, but look out for a few different plays, using all of their weapons and perhaps even a lot of running from the backfield.
This looks like being a tactical game, and life will be tough for the Rams, but we fancy them to find a way to win.
The San Francisco 49ers are going to do everything in their power to make this a boring game to watch. They want to take time off the clock when they have the ball, run it a lot, and when it comes to the opposition, they won’t give them an inch to work with when they have the ball.
The fewer points in this one, the more chance the 49ers have, just as we saw last week against the Packers.
It wasn’t pretty, but they executed their game plan with perfection, keeping Aaron Rodgers off the field for long periods. Although a different team, and a different quarterback, their game plan for this one is exactly the same as last weekend.
