Southampton v Man Utd Betting Tips & Predictions

Manchester United favourites for their trip to the south coast to face Southampton in the Premier League this weekend.

After a calamitous first two matches, there is renewed optimism surrounding Manchester United following the signing of Casemiro and a surprise win over Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag’s side now head to St Mary’s to take on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton, who came from behind away to Leicester to earn their first win of the season last weekend.

The Saints drew both matches with United in 2021-22.

Winner: Manchester United

5/6 (SpreadEx)

Ditching Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo proved a smart decision from Ten Hag.

United were a more cohesive unit against Liverpool, organised out of possession and had a clear plan when they won the ball.

A different game plan is required against Southampton, but the direct attacking play through Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho is still going to be effective.

The Saints were outclassed by Spurs in their season opener, and this match could follow a similar pattern.

Most Corners: Manchester United

10/13 (Unibet)

Manchester United have only had 14 corners through three matches, which places them in the bottom half.

Southampton, though, have had the fewest corner kicks in the Premier League thus far with nine.

With the Red Devils expected to dominate possession here, an increase in their corner tally is likely.

The direct play of their wide players can force defenders into conceding corner kicks, and the long shots of Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes will occasionally be tipped over the bar or deflected around the post.

To Be Shown A Card: Mohammed Salisu

16/5 (Paddy Power)

A front three of Anthony Martial, Rashford and Sancho puts pressure on the defence. Defenders are forced to commit tackles or risk a foot race, and tactical fouls to stop breaks are inevitable.

Mohammed Salisu had 10 yellow cards last season. He’s already been cautioned in 2022-23, and has conceded 1.7 fouls per game.

The Ghanian is a perennial booking candidate, with the risk only heightened by the opposition this weekend. This is a great price.
