The Super Bowl is the most viewed event in the sporting calender, and this year it is set to live up to the hype. Super Bowl 57 could be one of the tightest contests in history as The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Arizona. Both sides have seen success in the Super Bowl in recent years, the Eagles winning in 2018 and the Chiefs in 2020.
The teams racked up identical 14-3 records in the regular season, with the Eagles winning the NFC and the Chiefs the AFC. However, while the Eagles cruised to their conference win in the play-offs, the Chiefs had to scrap to the death against the Bengals, eventually triumphing with a last-gasp field goal. This means that the top seeds in each conference will meet in Sunday’s final.
The main focus to the contest could well be the clash of the superstar quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs and Jalen Hurts of the Eagles. Mahomes was recently named the NFL’s most valuable player. He notched 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. Hurts expertly led the Eagles offence, setting new career highs in completion percentage (66 per cent), passing yards (3,701), and passing touchdowns (22).
This is the fourth Super Bowl to be staged in Arizona – all in Phoenix – and the third at the State Farm Stadium, which was previously called the University of Phoenix Stadium.
Nicknamed ‘the Big Toaster’ for its appearance, it is equipped with a retractable roof which is expected to be open on Sunday. This was the case in 2008 and 2015. It is set to be Arizona’s warmest Super Bowl, with forecasts predicting that the temperature over the weekend will be in the mid-20s.
