08:41: Boris Johnson considering bank holiday if England wins EURO 2020

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, has hinted towards that a bank holiday could be declared if England wins their EURO final against Italy on Sunday. The date for the holiday is not set in stone, but 19th of July seems to be a potential candidate.

08:11: New threats towards Spain's Alvaro Morata

After being knocked out of EURO 2020, where Alvaro Morata missed a penalty, he and his family has received new threats. The Juventus players wife, Alice Campello, has shared a few of the messages that were received after the missed penalty against Italy.

"Honestly, I'm not suffering over any of these messages, really. I don't even think it's an 'Italian' factor, but one of ignorance. But I think if it had happened to a more fragile girl it would have been a problem. Sport is to unite, not to vent your frustrations. I really hope that in the future serious measures can be taken against these types of people because it is shameful and unacceptable.”, she wrote on social media after the messages.

Despite 3 scored goals for Morata in the tournament, it has not been a fun one for the forward star. During the group stage he talked about the death threats he had received after a number of missed scoring chances in the matches against Sweden and Poland. "I understand that I am getting criticized for not scoring, but I wish people could understand how it is to receive threats, to hear that your wife and kids will die", Morata said to the Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

Some of the latest messages towards Morata and his family included threats and insults like: “Your husband has dog cancer and your children too”, “Cow, I am ashamed that you are Venetian, instead of showing off your money, help people, bitch”, “Don’t you dare publish photos of Morata’s goal or I will go to your house and burn you live on Instagram”, “Both you (Morata and Campello) and your children will die of a heart attack”, among others.

05:40: The Danish EURO heroes landed at Kastrup

On Thursday the Danish EURO team landed at Kastrup in Copenhagen. The Danish head coach, Kasper Hjulmand, spoke to the press about the feelings of the reception: "It's so nice to see you all and it's fantastic that it is not online. We want to say thank you to the Danish population and I also want to say a huge thanks to the group, to the players and to the staff". The Danish goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, continued: "It's a strange feeling to come home. We were not ready for that, but it's of course fantastic to see my kids and family again. We have gone through it all. The whole country was amazing when Christian Eriksen fell together. It has put things into perspective, but also why we are a part of a team sport. If something happens there is always a friend at your side who will help you".

09:40: Ahead of the EURO 2020 Final: It's a dead even race

Shortly after England qualified for the EURO 2020 final the bookmakers started rolling our their odds for Italy - England, and it has been hard for them to agree on a favourite. Bet365 for example set the odds for winning the final at a dead even 1.83 on both teams. Check out the latest odds for the EURO 2020 final right here!

06:24: Outrage after laser's being pointed at Schmeichel

Laser pointer's have been an issue in football for a long time, and in the semi-final between England and Denmark it was once again the centre of discussion. When the Danish goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, was getting ready to save a penalty he got distracted by a green laser in his face. "Whoever did that is an idiot", ITV's Mark Chapman stated, and the English football profile Stan Collymore was clear with his stance on Twitter too: "If anyone shone a laser pen at Schmeichel, they want banning for life."

Despite the incident, Schmeichel managed to save the penalty taken by Harry Kane, but the rebound went straight back to the English captain who scored the crucial 2-1 goal.

04:55: Harry Kane - Man of the Match again

The Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, had a rough start to EURO 2020 and he got heavily questioned after three scoreless matches. Now the 27-year old has given his reply. After the group stage he has scored four goals in three matches. In the semi-final against Denmark the English captain was chosen as the Man of the Match for the third time in a row. Much now speaks for either him or Raheem Sterling receiving the prize as best player at EURO 2020. For that a win in the final against Italy might be needed though.

08:20: Denmark faces the best defence of EURO 2020 tonight

The strongest defence at EURO 2020 belongs to England, and it's not particularly close either. Until the upcoming semi-final the team has not conceded a single goal, and neither did they in their two friendlies while preparing for the tournament. The Danish players are however optimistic that they can break the streak in the clash on Wednesday at Wembley.

The forwards, Kasper Dolberg and Yussuf Poulsen gives praise to the strong English defence, but they still believe in Danish goals on the English national arena.

"Their statistics speak for themselves, and it won't be easy to score against them, but of course there is a possibility. We can score goals and create chances as a team, no matter where we win balls on the pitch", said Kasper Dolberg.

The Leipzig triker, Yussuf Poulsen adds: "England have done a great job with not conceding a single goal in the tournament. We know we can score against them, just like we did in the Nations League", he said, talking about the previous meeting between the teams that ended with a 1-0 win for the Danes at Wembley. The match between England and Denmark kicks off at 19:00. Check out our match preview and betting tips here!

00:07: Italy secures spot at EURO 2020 final - revenge for 2012 complete

In front of close to 60,000 fans at Wembley in London, Italy secured a spot in the EURO 2020 final after a nerve wrecking semi-final against Spain. Italy started the match strong and was the better team in the first half, even if Spain controlled the boll more. The first goal of the match was scored after about an hour of play, as Frederico Chiesa scored his second of the tournament. A beautiful goal that made Unai Simon in the Spanish goal look like a statue frozen in place. As Italy focused more and more on the defence, Spain slowly took over the game completely, and it carried fruit eventually. In the 80th minute the equalizer came through Alvaro Morata, who was subbed on 20 minutes earlier. A huge goal for Morata, who has been heavily questioned as a starter during the tournament.

The match ended 1-1, and with no goals scored in a dramatic extra time, penalties had to settle a finalist between Italy and Spain. As if the match hadn't been enough of a nail-biter the penalty shootout started with Locatelli missing the first penalty for Italy, just to be followed by a Spanish miss by Olmo. After two initial failures the goals started rolling on, but a black sheep and hero needed to be found. A sad turn of events saw Alvaro Morata become the former as he missed Spain's fourth penalty kick after a weak performance that Donnarumma could easily stop. In the fifth penalty for Italy, Jorginho stepped up to decide the match through a goal, and he made no mistake - Italy moves on, and Spain can pack their bags.

It's worth noting that the Italian success was a also revenge for their embarrassing 0-4 loss against Spain in the final of EURO 2012.

09:30: Harry Maguire out for revenge against Denmark

It took a long time for Manchester United's Harry Maguire to get past the unfortunate loss in the World Cup semi-final against Croatia. Now he and the rest of the English squad has a chance for revenge by going through to a major tournament final since 1966, when England won the World Cup at home soil. And regarding Maguire, well he has been in something of a hurricane as of late. During a vacation in Greece last summer the centre back ended up in a confrontation with Greek police, which resulted in probation for aggravated assault, violent resistance and attempted bribery. The incident was followed up by a red card in a Nations League match against Denmark last October, where England lost 1-0. England will play Denmark in their semi-final on Wednesday the 7th of July at 19:00 GMT.

08:40: Paramedics receive VIP ticket to the EURO final after saving Eriksen's life

Six of the people who helped saving Christian Eriksen's life will be awarded a VIP experience at Wembley on the day of the EURO final. UEFA have invited the six paramedics to the to the final on Sunday according to Danish Fagbladet Foa, who have also spoken to Peder Ersgaard, one of the personnel in the middle of the incident when Denmark played Finland. He was one of the first to assist the national team player after his cardiac arrest, and he helped saving Eriksen's life.

  • I am proud over my own effort, but also the whole team. This is not a one man effort, said Peder Ersgaard.

It's the previous national team doctor, Mogens Kreutzfeldt, who is behind UEFA's decision to hand out VIP tickets. Kreutzfeldt requested Peder Ersgaard's mail adress, and when the latter open his inbox he could see the invitation to the EURO 2020 final.

04:22: Home advantage plays a big role at EURO 2020

The four remaining teams at EURO 2020, Spain, Denmark, Italy and England, all played their group stage matches on home soil. It would be fair to assume that it's not a coincidence that this is the case. If England wins their semi-final against Denmark tomorrow they will get to play their sixth match at Wembley, out of seven. Most other teams in the tournament have faced a different reality of changing location almost between each match.

The semi-final at Wembley will allow 60,000 fans to attend, with 5,000 tickets being reserved for Danish supporters. The question is if all of them will even be sold since Danish fans traveling to England have to complete a 10 day long quarantine, and the amount of Danish fans living in England is limited of course. We can expect England to play with a 12th man, again...

08:42: No Danish supporters allowed against England

After 2-1 against the Czech Republic the Danish national team is ready for the semi-finals. However, they will have to play without the support of their fans, at least for the fans not already residing in the UK. This is due to the traveling restrictions set in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which mean supporters from Denmark will not be able to attend according to the Danish football association. They do however also state that 5,000 tickets are available for Danish fans living in England.

05:20: Italy's Spinazzola side-lined for several months

Many of us expected the worst when the Italian wing back, Leonardo Spinzzola, was clearly in pain the victory against Belgium. Today the news hit that Spinazzola has suffered a serious Achilles injury, meaning he will miss the rest of EURO 2020, and be out of play for several months. The injury occurred in the second half of the quarter-final between Italy and Belgium. The Roma player was in agonizing pain when he was carried out on a stretcher. "He does not deserve this. He has been one of the best players in the tournament, and he will be so even if he can't play in the upcoming matches", said the Italian head coach, Roberto Mancini, at a press conference after the match. On Tuesday Italy faces Spain in the semi-final. The match is played at Wembley in London on Tuesday evening.

01:23: England's fifth straight clean sheet at EURO 2020

Gareth Southgate and his England secured their fifth straight clean sheet in the 4-0 victory over Ukraine in their quarter-final. No team in the history of the European Championship has managed to complete such an achievement, and it will more than likely take a long time before someone does. England could of course also pro-long this streak in their upcoming match. The semi-final between England and Denmark is played on Wednesday the 7th of July 19.00 GMT at Wembley in London.

The Czech Republic bowed its head to Danish dreams

Denmark continues its magnificent performance at the European Championships. Casper Hulmand's team advanced to the semifinals after a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic in Baku. Thomas Delaney opened the scoring in the fifth minute, and Casper Dolberg scored in the 42nd minute. Patrick Schick returned a goal for the Czech Republic at the beginning of the second half with his fifth goal since the beginning of the European Championship.

After the incident with Christian Eriksen in the first match of the Danes, they showed character and a game that fascinated Europe. The Red Dynamite will play in one of the semifinals of Wembley against England

Harry Maguire (46 ') and Jordan Henderson (63') added one goal each, and Luke Shaw made two assists. In the semifinals, England will meet Denmark at Wembley. The match is on Wednesday.

Italy won against the Red Devils and will play in the semifinals

Italy has taken a new step towards the dream trophy of Euro 2020. "Squadra Azzurra" achieved a 2:1 victory over Belgium at the "Allianz Arena" in the most exciting quarterfinal of the tournament. Thus, on Tuesday the team will face Spain in a dispute for a place in the final. Goals for the winners were scored by Niccolo Barella (31 ') and Lorenzo Insigne (44'), and Romelu Lukaku (45 + 2 ') was accurate for the "red devils" from a penalty. It was a record 32nd consecutive game without a loss for the Italians, who extended their winning streak to 13 matches.

Roberto Martinez made only one change in his starting lineup and it was forced. Eden Hazard, who was injured against Portugal, failed to recover in time and so his place was taken by Jeremy Doku. The good news was that Kevin De Bruyne overcame his injury from the same match and was a starter again. The attack was entrusted to goalscorer Romelu Lukaku.

Spinazola's injury is serious

Italy's left-back Leonardo Spinazola is out until the end of Euro 2020. The Roma player was injured during the victory over Belgium (2: 1) in the quarterfinals and was forcibly replaced.

After the match, it turned out that Spinazola's injury was serious. He has a torn Achilles tendon and is expected to be off the field for several months. While being taken out on a stretcher, the defender could not hold back his tears.

Spinazola was injured in the 78th minute, without contact with an opposing player. He immediately signaled for a substitution and was replaced by Emerson Palmieri, who will almost certainly be the starter in the semi-final against Spain on Tuesday.

Spinazola's injury is a heavy blow for Roberto Mancini because he is left without one of his strongest players since the beginning of the European finals.

Penalties were needed for Spain to secure their place in the semi-finals and to end the tale of Switzerland

Spain advanced to the semifinals of the European Championship after beating Switzerland on penalties. In the regular time, the match ended 1: 1, and both teams did not score in overtime. Zakaria's own goal after a shot by Jordi Alba led to the first goal of the match in the eighth minute. Shakiri equalized in the 68th minute. Shortly after the equalizer, the Swiss were left with one less man after Freuler’s red card. In the penalties, both teams scored a few passes, but the Spaniards scored more and won 3: 1.

Both teams played overtime in the quarterfinals, and Switzerland eliminated France on penalties. This time, however, Petkovic's team retreated after 11-meter shots.

Euro 2020 set a record for its own goals

Euro 2020 set an incredible record for its own goals. This became a fact after Denis Zakaria sent the ball into his own goal during the match between Switzerland and Spain in the quarterfinals. The midfielder deflected a long shot by Jordi Alba and thus opened the score in favour of the opponent in the 8th minute.

Initially, the goal was recorded on Alba's account, but later UEFA decided that it was an own goal. Thus, the total number of own goals in the tournament became 10. These are more than the own goals of all 15 European championships so far, which are a total of 9.

So far, Merih Demiral, Wojciech Szczęsny, Mats Hummels, Ruben Dias, Rafael Guerrero, Lukasz Hradecky, Martin Dubravka, Juraj Kucka and Pedro have also scored goals in their own net.

Grealish: Kane is the best, each of us can play in the biggest teams

England midfielder Jack Grealish has named national team captain Harry Kane as the best footballer he has ever played with. He also believes that one day the Tottenham striker will break the record for goals in the Premier League. Kane failed to score in the group stage of the European Championships, but finally got a release against Germany in the round of 16 with his first goal of the tournament. The next English match is the quarter-final clash against Ukraine in Rome on Saturday.

"I play at Villa every minute, but in the national team, I have to be realistic because of the talent we have. Especially in my position. We have six players who can play to Harry's left or right. Realistically, each of us can play "in the best teams in the world. I'm talking about me, Jadon (Sancho), Marcus (Rashford), Rahim (Stirling), Phil (Foden) and Bukayo (Saka)," continued Grealish. "I don't want to exaggerate, but it's scary how good the six of us can be. That's the truth," Grealish concluded.

Mancini: We are playing against perhaps the best team in the world

Italy coach Roberto Mancini described Belgium as "perhaps the best team in the world" before the clash between the two teams in the quarterfinals of Euro 2020. The intriguing match will take place at Allianz Arena in Munich Today at 8.00 PM GMT

"I have no doubts, I have some choices to make, but we have clear ideas. Let's wait until tomorrow. Belgium is preparing for an important match, and the same goes for us.

“In the last three years, they are the best team in the rankings. We face the best team in Europe, along with France, perhaps the strongest in the world. They are at the top of the rankings, but we will try to win the match. I respect Belgium, but we have to play as we know-how, we are aware of our possibilities ", commented Mancini.

The 56-year-old specialist returned to the match with Austria, which the Azzurri won 2:1 after extra time (0:0 in regular time). "We knew Austria, we knew they could cause us problems. We knew that this could be the hardest match, but this was our first meeting in the direct elimination phase. Every game can make you stronger. We suffered against Austria, but we had 26 accurate shots on goal. It was a tough match, but we deserved to win. There are no easy matches, that's what the European Championship teaches us ", said Mancini.

Roberto Martinez: It is a pity that we meet the Italians so early

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has great respect for Italy. The two teams are rivals in the quarterfinals of Euro 2020. At yesterday's press conference, Martinez also commented on the situation with the injured Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne.

"Hazard and De Bruyne left training earlier. The decision for their participation will be made at the last moment before the match. There is serious progress with Eden, but it may not be enough to get him started. Kevin's situation is similar, but we'll see how he feels tomorrow," Martinez said.

"Italy is a brave team, very cohesive. They play fast and put high pressure. From the point of view of statistics, these are the two best teams at Euro 2020 and it is no coincidence that they have 4 victories each. We have to respect the opponent, but we are motivated to win. I want the players to enjoy the game”, said the coach of the red devils.

"It's a bit unfortunate that these two teams meet so early in the tournament. Italy can adapt to the opponent. They have not lost their historic DNA, but they have added new elements that make them even more dangerous. Tomorrow everything will be decided by the details ", added Roberto Martinez.

Malinovskiy: We like to be the outsider

Ukrainian national team midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy believes that the quarter-final against England at Euro 2020 can be won, but the team must be extremely focused all the time.

"The pressure is on the opponent. We need to take advantage of this. We have learned a lesson from the match with Sweden and we are now more confident. We cannot afford to make any mistakes against England. When we are in the role of an outsider, it only motivates us even more. We like to be underestimated, "Malinovkiy said.

"England has many stars - Kane, Sterling and others. We have to be especially careful with Sterling, who scored several goals in the championship. We know the strengths of the opponent and we are aware that we have to play very compactly ", the Atalanta footballer continued.

“It will be difficult for the English to play outside of Wembley. This is an advantage they have had so far. The lack of their fans will also be to our advantage. There have been several surprises since the beginning of the championship. We believe that we can serve another one ", Malinovskiy is convinced.

Southgate: We shouldn't think we're already in the semifinals

England coach Gareth Southgate is optimistic about the outcome of the quarter-final clash against Ukraine at Euro 2020. However, he warned his players not to underestimate the opponent for a moment.

"We have been watching the Ukrainians for the last year. Not many of their players play in the Premier League or the Bundesliga, but there are some. We must not allow the deceptive feeling that to win, it is enough to simply go out on the field. We are extremely focused on the match on Saturday and we are not thinking about the semifinals now. We must prepare in the best possible way. Our mentality will play a key role," Southgate said.

The match between England and Ukraine will take place on July 3 in Rome. The "Three Lions" have not yet conceded a goal in the course of the tournament.

Luis Enrique: So far in the championship I have not seen a stronger team than ours

Against the background of what happened to France, the coach of Spain Luis Enrique is preparing for a serious battle against Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the European Championship. The two teams will face each other Today at 5:00 PM GMT in St. Petersburg.

"The reality is that the Swiss have come this far. We know them very well from the matches in the Nations League. They are stable in defence and know how to press and attack. It will be very difficult for us. But so far in the championship, I have not seen a stronger team than ours ", Enrique commented.

"Their breeder Vladimir Petkovic is an exceptional specialist. They will create problems for us, because they, like us, will try everything to continue in the semifinals ", continued the Spanish coach. In the previous match, "La Furia Roja" conceded three goals against Croatia (5: ), failing to win in regular time after a 3:1 lead just before the end. According to Enrique, Spain has no problems in defence: "We have one of the most stable defences in the championship. I am pleased with how we managed to cope with the game in defence in the last 10 minutes of overtime against the Croats. However, I didn't like how we played with the ball in those minutes."

"Physically we are OK, but sometimes the problem is more mental or emotional. Otherwise, I have not decided yet whether I will make changes in my starting lineup. In principle, I trust all my players. This also applies to goalkeeper Unai Simon, who made a mistake in the last round. In that case, the important thing is how you will react after a mistake ", concluded Luis Enrique.

Petkovic: The quarterfinals do not satisfy us, we want more

The Swiss national team is not satisfied with the quarterfinals of the European Championship and believes that they have the strength to eliminate Spain, said coach Vladimir Petkovic before the match in St. Petersburg today. He explained that after eliminating France, his team is not afraid of anyone.

"We did very well until the quarterfinals, but we want more. This does not satisfy us. We are still playing against one of the favourites in the tournament, but after we eliminated France, we do not feel pressed against the wall. We want to take another step and we will be ready for the challenge”, Petkovic said.

The Swiss will be without midfielder Granit Jaca, who received his second card of the tournament against France. Petkovic is convinced he can adequately replace his star. "The absence of Granit is unpleasant, but I have an idea how to cope. It is clear that whatever team I choose, everyone will have to give another 10 percent of themselves because Spain is a great team. They scored 10 goals just in their last two matches ", the coach continued. "We have to play one move ahead of them and run more than them because Spain is a team that dominates with possession of the ball”, Petkovic added.

Spain defeated Slovakia 5-0 in their last match of the group stage, then beat Croatia 5-3 after extra time in the round of 16.

Mancini considers including Chiesa among the starters against Belgium

Italy coach Roberto Mancini is considering starting with Federico Chiesa instead of Domenico Berardi in the clash with Belgium in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020. The coach tried a similar option in the last training session yesterday, Sky Sport Italia reports. In the group of starters, this was the only change compared to the team that started the match with Austria in the 1/16 finals.

The inclusion of Chiesa among the starters would not be a big surprise. Apart from having a very strong season for the Bianconeri, the player had a great inclusion from the bench against Austria and scored the first goal in overtime. Many experts expected Chiesa to be among the starters at the beginning of the tournament, but then Mancini chose to bet on Berardi.

It is unlikely that the coach will make a change in the midfield. He is considering replacing one of Marco Verratti or Nicolò Barella with Matteo Pesina or Manuel Locatelli. However, this decision will be taken at the last minute.

At the same time, Giorgio Chiellini has already recovered from his injury and will almost certainly return to the centre of defence in place of Francesco Acerbi. Alessandro Florenzi has also resumed training, so for the first time since the start of the tournament, all 26 players are healthy and available to the coaching staff. However, Florenzzi did not train fully for 19 days, so it is unlikely he will get a chance to play against Belgium, and on the right flank of the defence, we will again see Giovanni Di Lorenzo or Rafael Toloi.

Southgate: Sterling is a fighter

English national team coach Gareth Southgate praised Raheem Sterling for his energetic attacking play and goals that kept the team's chances of winning the Euro 2020 title. The Manchester City striker is among the best players of the "three lions" in the European Championship and has three goals in four games. He opened the scoring in the 2-0 victory over Germany on Tuesday, with England qualifying for the quarter-finals to face Ukraine. The 26-year-old Stirling has scored 15 goals in his last 20 games for England.

"He's a fighter. In recent years, Raheem has developed a killer instinct in front of goal and feels an increasing need to score often. He is always looking for spaces and usually finds them. I'm glad he plays this way," said Southgate.

The English coach has many options in the attack and some fans of the team wanted to see different players, but Southgate is pleased that Sterling denied them.

"Wembley is a special place for him and this is evident in his performance and goals. He is amazing and I'm glad you ask questions. If we (in the team) can't motivate him, then others (journalists and fans) certainly succeed, "Southgate continued.

England will "visit" Ukraine in the Italian capital Rome on Saturday, July 3.

Chiellini returns for the battle with Belgium

Giorgio Chiellini has recovered and will most likely be in the starting lineup of Italy for the match with Belgium in the quarterfinals of Euro 2020. The captain of the "Azzurri" suffered an injury in the match against Switzerland in the group stage and was not in the group for the next two matches. The defender resumed training with the team and will be on the line for the next battle of the Italians.

According to Sky Italia, Roberto Mancini will bet on almost the same eleven that started the match against Austria, and the only change will be the inclusion of Chiellini in place of Francesco Acerbi.

Many in Italy believe that Federico Chiesa should be the incumbent in place of Domenico Berardi. The Juventus player played well against Austria and scored the first goal of the match in the first overtime. There are still some questions about the midfield, as all midfielders perform at a very high level. Marco Verratti was the starter in the last match, and Manuel Locatelli remained on the bench. Mateo Pesina, on the other hand, joined perfectly from the bench and scored a goal against Austria.

Yarmolenko donates his award from Euro 2020 for charity

The striker of the Ukrainian national team, Andriy Yarmolenko, will donate his prize for participation in Euro 2020 to charity, said the player's agent Vadim Shabliy.

"Andriy Yarmolenko made this decision long before the start of the European Championships. All the bonuses he will receive for his performance in the final round of the European Championships will be distributed to help sick and needy children. "I and Anriy will control the expenditure of funds in this charitable foundation. I believe that the whole country should know about such an act of the leader of the Ukrainian national team," Shabliy added.

In four matches of Euro 2020 Yarmolenko has scored two goals and made two assists.

England finally managed to wake up after 55 years from the nightmare called "Germany"

England is among the quarter-finalists of Euro 2020. The "Three Lions'' took a big step towards their cherished goal - to reach the final, after beating Germany 2-0 at Wembley. This was the first success of the islanders over the Bundesteam in the elimination phase of a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup final. England also interrupted a series of seven games at Wembley without a victory against this opponent. Rahim Sterling (75 ') with his third goal of Euro 2020 and Harry Kane (86') brought victory to the team of Gareth Southgate, who also took his personal rematch against Germany for the loss of the semifinals of Euro 96 when he missed a decisive penalty. In the quarter-finals, the English will meet Ukraine. Germany, meanwhile, has ended a long cycle in which the team has been led by Joachim Loew for the past 15 years. For him, this was his last match as a national team coach. Hansi Flick takes over the baton. It is interesting that after today's result all teams from the so-called "death group" have already dropped out of Euro 2020.

Ukraine is in the quarterfinals after a goal at the end of overtime

Ukraine qualifies for the quarterfinals of the European Championship after the reserve Artyom Dovbik scored at the very end of the second overtime. Andriy Shevchenko's team won 2-1 against Sweden and will face England in a battle for a place in the semifinals. Alexander Zinchenko opened the scoring in the 27th minute, and shortly before the break, Emil Forschberg equalized. There were no goals after the break, but Forschberg hit the crossbar twice, and Sidorchuk's shot also hit the crossbar.

Southgate: Great day, we were irresistible

England coach Gareth Southgate did not hide his joy at the 2-0 victory over Germany in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2020. For the coach, the victory was special, as a player lost the semi-finals of Euro 1996 in his homeland against Germany on penalties.

"Beautiful day. We talked about making the nation happy and we did. The players were unstoppable, we deservedly won. However, I immediately told the players that if we do not win on Saturday (no. 1/4-final against Ukraine), this success does not matter. The whole team defends itself very well until the very end. Rahim Sterling constantly has to prove to people that they are wrong about him.

However, he knows that we trust him completely. His game is just electric on this tour. I'm very happy. "I can't change anything for my teammates since 1996, but I'm proud of today's victory," said Southgate.

Joachim Loew: We are very disappointed

Germany coach Joachim Loew expressed his great disappointment after being eliminated in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2020. The Bundestim lost 0: 2 to England and left the race. The match was the last for Lev to lead Germany. He will be replaced by Hansi Flick.

"It's a huge disappointment for all of us. We hoped to achieve more in this championship and we believed in our abilities. In such matches, even the smallest opportunities that are open must be used. Unfortunately, Timo Werner and Thomas Mueller did not take advantage of them. The feeling of dropping out is terrible, "Loew said.

Spain went through hell, but eliminated Croatia in a crazy game with eight goals

The Spanish team achieved a 5: 3 victory over Croatia after extra time of "Parken" in the most exciting match of Euro 2020 so far, which was from the phase of the 1/8 finals. It was the second most goal-scoring match in the history of the tournament. Thus, "La Furia Roja" secured participation in the next round, where they will meet Switzerland. This will be the first quarter-final for the Spaniards at the European or World Cup since Euro 2012.

Pedry scored a curious own goal in the 20th minute, and in the 38th Sarabia equalized for the Iberians. Cesar Aspilicueta made a complete turnaround in the 57th minute, and in the 77th minute his teammate Ferran Torres scored. The "chess players" still managed to reach a draw in the regular time with late goals by the reserves Mislav Orsic (85 ') and Mario Pasalic (90 + 2'). The two goals in overtime were scored by Alvaro Morata (100 ') and the substitute Mikel Ojarsabal (103'), thus Spain reached success, sending the team to the quarterfinals.

Switzerland cut off the heads of the "roosters" in a memorable match, the big sinner is Mbappe

The number 1 favorite of Euro 2020 France is out of the tournament! The "Roosters'' were eliminated in the round of 16 after a breathtaking match against Switzerland. Didier Deschamps' team led 3-1 a few minutes before the end, but allowed an equalizer. In overtime, neither team was able to reach a goal, and in the penalties, a mistake by Kylian Mbappe proved fatal for the world champions.

The clash at the Arena Nacional in Bucharest confirmed the tendency from the beginning of the elimination phase for the teams considered to be outsiders in the pairs to perform significantly above expectations. The Czechs showed it against the Dutch and the Croats against the Spaniards, but the real sensation was created by Switzerland, which did not bend for a moment against the star-studded lineup of France.

Pele to Mbappe: Head up!

Legendary former Brazilian footballer Pele wrote words in support of the young French star Killian Mbape, who is experiencing one of the biggest disappointments in his career. The striker of France and Paris Saint-Germain missed the decisive penalty in the 1/8 final against Switzerland and the "roosters" dropped out of the tournament.

“Up your head, Killian! Tomorrow will be the first day of the new adventure, "Pele wrote. After the pass, Mbappe returned to the locker room, extremely disappointed. The other French players tried to comfort him.

"Mbappe is terribly upset, as is everyone else. No one can be angry with him, because he took the responsibility to execute the fifth penalty ", commented the French coach Didier Deschamps.

Morata equaled Fernando Torres' record

Criticized for his performances and omissions at Euro 2020 Spanish striker Alvaro Morata scored an extremely important goal in the ⅛ final clash against Croatia last night. The Juventus striker scored the goal for 4: 3, with which the Spaniards took the lead in the first overtime. Thus, Morata already has 5 goals in European championships, with which he equalized with Fernando Torres. The two are the players with the most goals in the European finals in the history of the Spanish national team.

0.42 The team of Belgium achieved a minimal victory with 1:0 over Portugal at "La Cartouche" in a match of the 1/8 finals of Euro 2020 and thus qualified for the next round

Thorgan Hazard (42 ') scored the only goal in the match, which dethroned the champion of the last European Championship. Thus, the "red devils'' secured a clash against Italy in the quarterfinals.

After betting on an experimental squad against Finland, yesterday Roberto Martinez made five changes in his starting 11. Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen appeared in defence, and this time midfielders were Toma Munier and Thorgan Hazard. Yuri Tillemans found a place in the middle of the field. The attack was again entrusted to Romelu Lukaku, who was assisted by Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard.

1.15 The Czech Republic made a big surprise and knocked the Netherlands out of Euro 2020

The Czech Republic presented the big surprise so far at Euro 2020 and eliminated the Netherlands in the 1/8 finals after a 2-0 victory. The decisive moment was the red card of Matthias de Licht in the 52nd minute when the Juventus defender made a serious mistake and left his teammates with ten people. The goals for the Czechs were scored by Tomas Holes (68 ') and Patrick Schick (80'). The story between these two teams was confirmed once again and seemed to play its role, as the players of Yaroslav Shilhavi performed excellently and won their place in the next phase.

2.15 De Licht, It’s my fault that we are out”

The defender of the Netherlands Matthias de Licht took the blame for the elimination of the "tulips" in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2020. The Netherlands lost 0:2 to the Czech Republic, and De Licht received a red card in the 55th minute, after which the Czechs scored both goals.

"It simply came to our notice then. We are out because of what I did. Going back in time, I don't think I should have allowed the ball to bounce like that, "said De Licht.

7.25 Embolo is optimistic about Switzerland against France

Switzerland striker Breel Embolo spoke about the upcoming match against France at Euro 2020. He expressed optimism about the performance of his team against the world champion.

"It doesn't matter to me whether I score or not. Our main goal is to move on to the next stage. Overall, I'm happy with our performance. We have a very good team. Even in qualifying, everyone acted as one," said Breel Embolo.

The France-Switzerland match will take place on June 28th in Bucharest. The start is at 8:00 PM GMT

8.36 Perisic with an emotional post in support of Croatia

Croatian midfielder Ivan Perisic contracted the coronavirus before the 1/8 final match with Spain at Euro 2020.

"As most of you know, I was found to have COVID-19. Thank you all for your words of support for me. I feel better, but I am sorry that I will not be able to help the Croatian national team. But I hope that in the future I will succeed. I am sure that with the support of our fans boys will play great. And who knows, maybe I will still have a chance to go out on the field of Euro 2020. Go ahead, boys! ", wrote Perisic on Instagram.

Croatia's national team will face Spain in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2020. The meeting will take place on June 28 in Copenhagen and will start at 5:00 PM GMT.

01:04: Ivan Perisic tests positive for Covid-19

Croatia have been handed bad news ahead of their Round of 16 match against Spain on Monday. One of the stars of the team, Ivan Perisic, has tested positive for Covid-19. The Croatian football association confirmed the news on Saturday evening. Due to the positive test, Perisic will be isolated for 10 days. The rest of the Croatian players have been tested negative. The match between Spain and Croatia will be played at Parken in Copenhagen the 29th of June.

00:41: Italy advances after much trouble

Roberto Mancini and Italy impressed fans and experts alike in the EURO group stage, and quickly became a favourite to all the way after their demolishing wins against Switzerland, Turkey and Wales. And if wasn't for the help by VAR, then Gli Azzuri would have been done and dusted in the EURO playoffs already. Austria stood on the other side of the pitch, and they managed to put a lot of pressure on Italy, and eventually bring the match to extra time. It has to be mentioned that Italy was lucky for that to be the case - in the 65th minute everybody thought Marko Arnatovic had scored 1-0 for Austria on an excellent header, but after a VAR check an offside was found, by the smallest of margins.

Instead of 1-0 to Austria and a surprising Italian exit, the match went to ET. The Italian heroes? Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina, both subbed in late in the match. Chiesa scored 1-0 after just 5 minutes of the extra time, and with 6 minutes remaining, Pessina extended the lead. While it looked all over, Austria managed to score through Sasa Kalajdzic, but two was too much to ask for. Italy as such moves on to the quarter finals, but it's certainly with more question marks in their heads than before this match against Austria.

We can now look forward to an amazing match between Belgium and Italy in the quarter final. Two of the main favourites will battle it out at Allianz Arena in Munich on the 2nd of July.

00:02: Denmark shines bright as they smash Wales in Amsterdam

Denmark has secured their spot in the quarter finals of EURO 2020 after beating Wales with a dominating 4-0 in Amsterdam. Kasper Dolberg, now in Nice, but with a past in Ajax, scored two of the goals. The 23-year old striker, who replaced an injured Yussuf Poulsen, looked to enjoy playing at his previous home pitch. After a somewhat slow start, it was Dolberg who started the goal scoring after 27 minutes of play, and also goal number two would be signed Dolberg, at the start of the second half. Towards the end of the match the Welsh goalkeeper, Danny Ward, had to dig out another two balls out of his net after Joakim Maehle and Martin Braithwaite punctured the game once and for all. For Denmark the EURO adventure now moves on as they will play the surprise winner, Czech Republic, at Puskas Arena in Budapest on the 3rd of July.

Gareth Southgate changes the tactic for the clash with Germany

England coach, Gareth Southgate, is considering changing the game tactic of the "three lions" for the round of 16. According to the "Mirror", the specialist intends to bet on a formation with three central defenders to be able to more adequately oppose the system of play of Joachim Löv, who bets on 3-4-3. Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire and John Stones will probably start as central defenders, and Kieran Trippier and Luke Shaw will act as wingbacks. Bucayo Saka can also be used in this role on the left flank.

Southgate also used the three-back tactic during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, when England reached the semi-finals, so players should have no problem adapting.

England played their first three Euro 2020 matches with a 4-2-3-1 tactic, that failed to create goal situations. The "Three Lions" have scored only two goals so far, but have not yet conceded a goal.

French defender may miss the rest of Euro 2020

France defender, Luca Dean, may miss the rest of Euro 2020. He came on as a substitute in the match against Portugal, but stayed on the pitch for only seven minutes and was replaced after suffering a knee problem.

"Luca Dean has a problem with his thigh muscle. It can also be quite serious. We will see exactly what it is about, but usually, such muscle injuries are not a good sign ", said the coach Didier Deschamps.

France's next match is in the 1/16 finals, where the Roosters' opponent will be Switzerland. The match is on June 28 in Bucharest.

Austria is preparing a tactical trap for Italy

Austria is planning a new change in tactics for the upcoming clash with Italy in the 1/16 finals of Euro 2020. Coach Franco Foda, whose father is Italian, has already shown that he chooses different tactics of play depending on the opponent. He bet on a formation with three in defence in the 3:1 victory over Northern Macedonia and the 0:2 loss to the Netherlands. He then changed the tactic to 4-2-3-1 for the match with Ukraine (1:0).

Austria is now expected to come out with a brand new line-up against Italy, Sky Italia and Gazzetta Dello Sport claim. Foda is expected to choose 4-1-4-1 with Florian Grilich, who will act as a buffer between the defence and the midfield.

There will also be a special task for Michael Zabitzer, who will have to personally take care of Giorgino's and prevent him from distributing the game for Italy.

David Alaba will play left-back again, while Marko Arnautovic is expected to lead the attack again instead of the unconvincing Sasa Karadzic. Martin Hintegerger was slightly injured but is also expected to be ready for the match with the Azzurri on Saturday at Wembley.

Benzema broke Zidane's record

France striker Karim Benzema made history with his two goals, which he scored in the 2-2 draw against Portugal. He thus became the oldest French national to score two goals in one match of the European Championship. In this way, he improved the previous achievement of the legend Zinedine Zidane.

Benzema scored both goals at the age of 33 years and 186 days, while Zidane did so at the age of 31 years and 356 days with his two goals at Euro 2004 against England in a 2-1 victory.

Do not allow Italy and Austria to train at Wembley

The national teams of Italy and Austria will not have the opportunity to train at Wembley before their match in the round of 16 of the European Championship on Saturday. The Azzurri Football Federation announced that UEFA did not allow the two teams to step on the field to protect the grass.

The Italians will train tomorrow morning at their base in Coverciano and then fly to London. Now they will be looking for a field in the English capital for their next training.

Before the match, there were concerns about the game in London following the increase in coronavirus infections in the country. Austria and Italy also commented on the fact that foreign fans will not be allowed for the match.

Unseen "rain" of own goals at Euro 2020

A curious trend is observed at the current Euro 2020. Unusually many own goals fall in the tournament. In the previous 15 European Championships, the total number of this type of goal was nine. However, since the beginning of the current edition of the competition, as many as eight own goals have been scored.

Also, for the first time in the history of the tournament, the first goal of the championship was an own goal, and it was scored by Merich Demiral from Turkey. In two of the matches, there were even two own goals by players of one team. The unlucky ones were Portugal in the 2:4 loss to Germany and Slovakia in the 0:5 defeat to Spain. This had also not happened in previous editions of the Continental Forum. By the end of Euro 2020, there are 15 matches left in which the number of own goals may increase.

All Euro 2020 own goals so far:

  • Merich Demiral in the loss of Turkey with 0:3 from Italy

  • Wojciech Szczęsny lost to Poland 1: 2 to Slovakia

  • Mats Hummels in the loss of Germany with 0:1 from France

  • Ruben Dias and Rafael Guerrero in the 2:4 loss to Portugal by Germany

  • Lukasz Hradecky in the 0:2 loss of Finland to Belgium

  • Martin Dubravka and Juraj Kucka in the 0:5 loss of Slovakia to Spain

09:42: 19-year old, Bukayo Saka, impresses at Wembley

Bukayo Saka grew up in the area around Wembley Stadium in London, and in last group stage match against the Czech Republic the 19-year old Arsenal player got the chance from the first minute. The change meant that Phil Foden was rested, much due to having a yellow card since before and risking a suspension in the Round of 16. Gareth Southgate instead gave Saka a chance to show what he can do, and he took that chance to say the least - the winger received the prize as man of the match.

"I’ve played here before and got a man of the match performance before but was without the fans and my family. So tonight to have my family and of course the England fans in the stadium was really special and its a tonight I’ll never forget.", Saka said after receiving the prize from UEFA.

Raheem Sterling, who scored the only goal of the match, also praised his team mate after the game: "I thought Bukayo Saka was brilliant. I told him after the game that he got in the pockets of space, drove at people, he was direct and that’s what you need. It’s a credit to him."

If Saka will get the chance to play in the Round of 16 remains to be seen, but the most likely scenario is that he starts on the bench again. For England the second placed team from the "Group of Death" awaits in the first round of the knockout phase.

07:21: Isak and Quaison to start up front for Sweden against Poland

In the last round of Group F, Sweden is in a dream position. In case of a win they take first place in the group, meaning they will face a third placed team in the Round of 16 - which will be Ukraine, Finland or the Czech Republic. Most signs point towards the Czechs, as Finland has a complicated road to become one of the best third place finishers. For example, Portugal would have to lose with at least four goals against France for that to happen. For Ukraine Portual needs to lose with a minimum of three.

Sweden's match against Poland will determine the Swedes fate in who they will play, but for Poland it's a life or death situation - only a win can save them. Sweden have confirmed a change in their attacking forces with Quaison replacing Marcus Berg. An interesting note is that Quaison and Alexander Isak, the other forward, both used to play for AIK domestically before beginning their international careers.

"It's fun. He is an incredible player. We haven't played that much together, but it's fun. It would be fun to play with him more often.", said Quaison on the question how it feels to play with Isak.

06:15: Croatia breaks the ice and secures second plade in Group D

EURO 2020 didn't start as the 2018 World Cup runner up, Croatia, would have wanted. One loss and a draw was the record ahead of their third and final match of the group stage. The team managed to pull through however and produce, by far, their best performance against Scotland when it was needed the most. The Croatian team started with an all-out speed and it gave result quickly as Ivan Perisic assisted Nikpla Vlasic for 1-0 in the 17th minute.

Scotland got their reply at the end of the first half through Callum McGregor, but Croatia had good control of the match. After an hour we got a real highlight goal from the Croatian superstar, Luka Modric, who bombarded in 2-1 from distance. Hampden Park was silenced, and it would get worse as Ivan Perisic scored 3-1 with just a bit over 10 minutes remaining. This means that Scotland are knocked out of EURO 2020, but it has to be said that their performance has been pretty good looking at the expectations. The draw against England will be a nice memory for some time to come. Croatia will move to the knockout phase and their first opponent will be the second place finisher in Group F, which will be settled tonight. Their match will be played at Parken in Copenhagen on the 28th of June.

03:31: England conquers group win - wins nothing?

After 1-0 against the Czech Republic at Wembley it's now settled that England is the winner of Group D. The only goal of the match was scored by Raheem Sterling after just 12 minutes of play. A cross from Jack Grealish found an unmarked Sterling in the box, and he placed the header in without much of an issue. What followed was potentially some of the most dull football played at EURO this year, but the 19,000 fans at Wembley could probably take that as it led to a group win.

Next up for England is the second place finisher of Group D, where Germany, Portugal or France are the candidates. That is if Hungary can't produce a massive upset in Munich, while at the same time France beats Portugal. The match, no matter who the opponent will be, is played at Wembley on the 29th of June. It also has to be said that the reward England gets for winning their group is not really a reward at all - then again, to win EURO 2020 you got to beat the best one way or another, and England will face a tough test early on.

22nd of June

06:32: Netherlands made short work of North Macedonia

Frank de Boer's Netherlands had already secured the group win ahead of the last match against North Macedonia. This did not stop them from putting the pedal to the metal and win 3-0 though. The victory came through 1-0 in the 24th minute by Memphis Depay, followed by two goals signed Georginio Wijnaldum in the 50th and 59th minute. Netherlands as such secured their third straight win of the group stage, while North Macedonia travels home with 0 points on their account.

Vacation's are now on the table for the North Macedonian players, while the Netherlands are waiting to know their upcoming opponent in the Round of 16. They will play a third placed team from group D, E or F. The match will be played in Bucharest, Romania. This will also be the first time in EURO 2020 that the Dutch team will travel outside their own borders to compete.

04:21: Denmark advances after goal shower at Parken

After 0-1 against Finland in their opening match of EURO 2020, and the scary situation with Christian Eriksen, there were few Danes who still believed in reaching the knockout phase. This just got worse as the team also lost to Belgium in the second round. But with both Russia and Finland at three points coming into the third round, the hope was still alive through a second place finish in Group B. On Monday evening it was time to cling onto that hope in front of 25,000 attendants at Parken in Copenhagen. The red-whites delivered, and a litte bit more.

After 90 minutes Denmark had won 4-1 and also secured exactly what they were looking for - a second place finish and a ticket to the Round of 16. The goal scoring started through Mikkel Damsgaard through a nice finish from just outside the box. That was just the beginning of the party though, as Yussuf Poulsen, Andreas Christensen and Joakim Maehle would all have time to score before it was over. Despite Russia being awarded a penalty and a subsequent goal through Artem Dzyuba in the 70th minute, there was never any doubt that Denmark was clearly the better team and deserved their points. Denmark will now face Wales in the Round of 16 at Amsterdam Arena, while the Russian players will pack their bags and go on vacation.

01:10: Austria to Round of 16 - Ukraine left hoping

Austria has secured a second place finish in Group C behind the Netherlands, which means they will take on Italy in the Round of 16. This after winning against Ukraine, 1-0, at Arena Nationala in Bucharest in front of 10,500 people on the stands. Christoph Baumgartner became the hero after a re-direction after a corner in the 21st minute.

For Ukraine the loss means that they end the group stage with 3 points and a 4-5 goal differential. Now their hopes lies with the remaining groups producing worse third placed teams. In total 4 out of 6 third placed teams will get a ticket to the knockout phase. Shevchenko and all of Ukraine's fate is now in the hands of mathematic equations and they can't do anything more to affect the outcome. If Ukraine advances will be known on Wednesday evening.

00.02 Three out of three for Italy, the Azzurri won their group without any problems

The Italian team finished Group A of Euro 2020 without a mistake. This became a fact after the victory of "Squadra Azzurra" with 1-0 over Wales at "Olimpico" in the last match of both teams from the first phase of the tournament. Matteo Pesina (39 ') scored the only goal in the match, and Ethan Ampadou (56') received a direct red card, putting the "dragons" one man short for the rest of the match.

Thus, Italy deservedly won Group A with a total of 9 points and a goal difference of 7:0. The Azzurri will play the second placed team from Group C in the round of 16. Wales also qualified for the next phase, finishing second in the group with 4 points, the same as Switzerland in third, but with a worse goal difference. In the first round of eliminations, the "dragons" will face the second place finisher of Group B.

9.03 Chiesa: Important matches are just beginning

One of the stars of Italy, Federico Chiesa, was chosen as the player of the match in the 1-0 victory against Wales in the third round of Group A of Euro 2020. The Juventus player played a full 90 minutes and was among the most active on the field for the success of Italy.

"We have proved that there are no starters and reserves in our team. Any player who is trusted to play can do well. I could have scored, but a Welsh defender cleared the goal line," said Chiesa.

"The enthusiasm in our team is great, but the important matches are just beginning with the elimination phase," added the Italian national.

12.40 Dembele out for the whole European, may miss two months

Barcelona striker, Usman Dembele, will miss all of France's matches until the end of Euro 2020. The reason for this is the knee injury he suffered during the match against Hungary. Dembele left the Roosters' camp this morning after tests showed that his injury would disable him for at least three weeks. Cadena Ser's forecasts are even more pessimistic, with the source claiming that Dembele could recover in two months. Further tests are pending before it is established with certainty.

Dembele appeared on the field in the 57th minute in the 1:1 draw against Hungary in place of Adrien Rabiot. In the 87th minute, however, Didier Deschamps replaced the 24-year-old striker with Toma Lömar.

13.50 Thomas Mueller injured during training

Recently returned national team player, Thomas Mueller, has suffered a knee injury and will not play in Germany's last Euro 2020 group stage match against Hungary on Wednesday, Bild reported. The Bayern Munich player was injured during training and the medical staff will try to lift him to the round of 16 if the team reaches them.

11.06 Scotland's best player in the derby with England with a positive coronavirus test

Scotland midfielder, Billy Gilmore, who was selected as the Player of the match in the British derby with England, has tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, Chelsea's talent will have to isolate itself for 10 days, which means that he will miss tomorrow's match against Croatia. The Scots have to beat the Fiery Ones to qualify for the next phase, but the same goes for the Croats, as both teams have one point each so far.

Before the start of the championship, John Fleck gave a positive result in the test, but returned for the match with the Czech Republic. Six other players who were in close contact with him missed control with the Netherlands before the start of Euro 2020, but then took part in the test with Luxembourg.

There is no information that now other players from the selection of Steve Clark will have to be isolated.

05:21: Hungary snatched a point against world champions, France

Most people had disregarded the Hungarian chances when they were set to face France in the second round of EURO 2020/2021, but Marco Rossi led Hungary to a point which gives them a chance to reach playoff. The home fans at Ferenc Puskas in Budapest got more than one reason to celebrate the 1-1 against the world champions. The arena was cooking as Hungary scored 1-0 through Attila Fiola, after France had missed several excellent opportunities themselves.

France would however get to equal footing with 20 minutes of the match remaining. Antoine Griezmann put the ball in the net after good work by Mbappé leading up to the equalizer. With France dropping points it means that no team in Group F is safe. For France a nervy meeting with the reigning champions, Portugal, awaits in Budapest, at the same time as Hungary will play Germany at Allianz Arena in Munich.

00:50: Goal scoring party between Germany and Portugal in Munich

Portugal began the goalscoring at Allianz Arena in Munich through Cristiano Ronaldo in the 15th minute, making the uphill battle tough on Germany who were pressured to secure points in the match. Germany would however wake up and send a message. Between the 35th and 39th minute Joachim Löw could get relief as he saw his team score both 1-1 and 2-1 - both goals counted as own goals by Portuguese defenders..

In the second half the German machine kept on marching, and already in the 51st minute it was time for Portugal to recover the ball from their own net again. The Chelsea star, Kai Havertz, scored the 3-1 goal, and the momentum just kept going as Robin Gosen scored 4-1 in the 60th on a header. Portugal picked themselves up and scored their second goal through Diego Jota just seven minutes later, but that's also where the goal scoring party ended. The 6 scored goals is easily the most we have seen in EURO 2020/2021.

The German win has put Group F into turmoil as nothing will be settled before the last round has been played. France tops the standings with 4 points, followed by Portugal and Germany at 3. Hungary is last with 1 point, but with the hope of playoff still alive.

00:15: Spain in trouble after another draw

Spain came to EURO 2020/2021 as a massive favourite to win Group E, but they are in deep water after another draw. In the opening match against Sweden, the Spaniards could not break down a low-standing Swedish defence, and the match ended 0-0. In the second round an all-out offense for three points was expected, but Poland stood in the way and managed to keep Spain to a 1-1 draw in Sevilla. The hero for Poland? A certain Robert Lewandowski, just like many times in the past. The match certainly didn't lack dramatic moments - just after the Leandowski equalizer, Spain received a penalty kick, but Gerrard Moreno hit the post, and on the re-bound Morata missed an open goal.

The draw results in Poland having a chance to reach playoffs if they beat Sweden in the third and final round. For Spain nothing is secured, and to advance, a win against Slovakia is more than likely a must. A draw could be enough to place as one of the best third placed teams in the group stage, but that's no guarantee. Group E will be decided on Wednesday, and if things go wrong we could see the 2012 European champions go out already. That would be a surprise of the higher magnitude to say the least.

08:11: Little brother, Scotland, steals a point at Wembley

Most experts had picked England as a clear winner at Wembley against their "little brother", Scotland, but they will have to eat their words. The Scots stood up well against England, and even managed to produce a whole lot of scoring chances themselves. A draw at the end of it all felt rather logical, even if both teams certainly should have scored a goal or two. For England it has to be said that the match was disappointing, and their slow passing at midfield never led too much else than exactly that, passing the ball around. Harry Kane was one of the players to receive most criticism after the match, and for example he got a score of 4/10 from Independent - lowest out of all players for England.

Man of the match was Scotland's Bill Gillmour, who played in his first international match for his nation. This seems to suit Chelsea's 20 year old well, as he has been selected as the man of the match in his FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League debut's as well - quite remarkable. Despite the point won by the Scots at Wembley, their situation is rather tricky. They need to win their last match against Croatia, and that is a tough task. Right now they are last in Group D with 1 point and a -2 goal differential. The Czechs top the standings together with England, both at 4 points.

04:38: Sweden closes in on playoffs after 1-0 against Slovakia

After 1-0 against Slovakia in St. Petersburg, Sweden has one leg in the Round of 16 at EURO 2020/2021. The winning goal came with 15 minutes remaining of the match through a penalty kick that was converted by Emil Forsberg. The victory means that the Swedes are practically guaranteed for the playoffs already. Four points is generally the same as a guaranteed spot, and for example in EURO 2016, there was only two teams at third placing who qualified with four points. Ahead of Spain-Poland, Sweden is in the lead of Group E. The last round of the group is played on Wednesday.

00:15: Schick solo top scorer at EURO 2020/2021

In the meeting between Croatia and the Czech Republic, Patrick Schick delivered his third goal as he put Czech in the lead, 1-0, after a penalty kick in the 37th minute. The situation leading up to the penalty involved Schick, who got a hit to the head by the Croatian defender, Dejan Lovren, and was left bleeding as the referee pointed at the penalty spot after a VAR check. Schick converted the penalty distinctly and put himself at three goals in EURO 2020/2021, good enough for a lead in that department.

If Schick would manage to become the top goal scorer of the tournament it would me an incredible surprise. The match eventually ended 1-1, meaning that the Czech's are more or less guaranteed to reach the playoffs. Czech currently stands at 4 points in Group D, the same as England, who they play in the last group stage match.

08:51: Success against Spain: Clubs lining up to sign Alexander Isak

Already before EURO 2020 kicked off, Alexander Isak was a hot name on the transfer market, and the interest for the 21-year old Swede has certainly not cooled down after his performance against Spain.According to the Spanish newspaper, AS, several English clubs have lined up to get the youngsters signature. The three main clubs in discussion are Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. Alexander Isak is currently playing for Real Sociedad, and his contract runs until 2024. Sweden plays against Slovakia next today at 13.00 GMT, and if Isak once again shows his magical moves we can expect this transfer circus to get even hotter.

08:42: Kevin De Bruyne does all the difference despite injury

The Belgian star midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, was for the longest time an uncertain card for EURO 2020/2021 due to injury issues. He suffered nose and eye socket fractures in the Champions League final against Chelsea. As late as the 5th of June De Bruyne underwent surgery, and yesterday he was substituted in against Denmark. Despite the issues for De Bruyne, and a 0-1 deficit at half time, the superstar entered the pitch and made sure Belgium could bag another three pointer. With one magical assist and a goal by himself it's fair to say that De Bruyne was the difference maker that was needed.

"I am happy I could play today. I don't feel anything in the left side of my face, it's exactly like when you've been to the dentist. My nerves are heavily affected and it could take six months until it's fine. It's unpleasant, but the most important thing is that I can play", said De Bruyne.

If head coach, Roberto Martinez, will play his superstar from start in Belgium's upcoming match against Finland remains to be seen. We can however assume that he certainly will be in the starting eleven of the playoffs, to where Belgium has already qualified.

07:41: Eight players share goal scoring lead of EURO 2020/2021

After yesterday's matches another three players were added to the list of scorers with two goals in the tournament. Right now that means a shared lead as top scorer in EURO 2020/2021. In the meeting between Ukraine and North Macedonia we saw Andrei Jarmolenko and Roman Jaremchuk score one each, just like they did against Netherlands in their opening match. Denzel Dumfries was also in goal scoring mood again, as the scored 2-0 for Netherlands in their meeting against Austria, which also ended up being the final score.

Ahead of today's games we find eight players are two goals, and we can almost expect the list to grow. Or maybe we can even get a player to the solo lead. That would however require two goals from Raheem Sterling or Milan Skriniar - or more unlikely, someone to score a hat-trick today.

06:05: Netherlands and Belgium joins Italy as teams with a secured playoff spot

Two more teams have secured their spot in the Round of 16 at EURO 2020/2021. In Copenhagen the comeback of Kevin De Bruyne ended with success, as Denmark had a 1-0 lead in halftime, but De Bruyne was substituted in and secured three Belgian points through one magical assist and another goal all by himself. The Netherlands made things short with Austria as they took a solid 2-0 victory without sweating too much at Amsterdam Arena. Both teams have now reached 6 points, and as such secured a playoff spot.

In the last round Belgium will play Finland in St. Petersburg while the Netherlands will take on North Macedonia at home in Amsterdam. It's expected that Frank de Boer will give play time to most players and air his squad heavily as the group win has been secured.

09:05: Christian Eriksen to receive celebration at Parken

The Danish star midfielder, Christian Eriksen, will watch the match between Denmark and Belgium from his bed at the hospital. Danish media have already revealed that Eriksen will be celebrated during the match. In the 10th minute there will be a brief pause for applause from the crown at the Danish national arena. The plan is for the Belgian team, where Eriksen's club mate Romelu Lukaku plays, to kick the ball over the line for a break.

"I spoke to our coach about visiting Eriksen. He (Eriksen) said it was okay. After 10 minutes of the game we will kick the ball out to celebrate him - then we will give an applause together with the Danish team.", said Lukaku.

The match between Denmark and Belgium from Group B will kick off at 17.00 GMT, and Denmark is in need of at least one point to keep the EURO 2020/2021 dream alive. Belgium, on the other hand, would secure a playoff spot in case of a win.

05:48: Italy keeps on impressing in EURO 2020/2021

Ahead of the start of EURO 2020 the tips for Italy to win gold were few and far between, but that has started to change. After two rounds the Italian team have achieved two straight wins, both with 3-0. The opening win against Turkey was followed up by another impressive victory over Switzerland. Roberto Mancini's squad deserved the win, and there was never any question who the better team was.

Manuel Locatelli showed Squadra Azzurra the way with two goals, and the first was truly highlight worthy. Domenico Berardi went past a defender on the right wing and sent a perfect pass to Locatelli who secured a 1-0 lead for the hosts in Rome. In the last few minutes of the match the Lazio star, Ciro Immobile, settled the 3-0 score. This means that Italy has secured a spot in the EURO playoff, as the first team to do so. The team is in excellent form, and the question is who can stop them?

The victory over Switzerland in the first round put Italy at 10 straight wins with a crazy 35-0 goal differential, and they are now one of the main favourites to lift the trophy as the best team in Europe. Check out the odds for EURO 2020 winner here!

01:20: Fernandes back with the Russian team after a visit to the hospital

The Russian defender, Mário Fernandes, was carried out on a stretcher during the match against Finland yesterday. Fernandes got injured after a challenge with a Finnish player, where both players went to for a header, but the Russian lost balance and hit the grass on his back. He ended up needing medical care and was seen lying down on the pitch of Gazprom Arena for a long time, after which he was sent to the hospital for further check-up. Accoring to reports it seems like Fernandes recovered well and pulled through without bigger injuries. He has since joined the Russian squad again.

00:15: Dream start denied as Russia beats Finland

During Wednesday the second round of play in EURO 2020 kicked off. The first match was between Russia and Finland in Group B. A match where Finland got off to a dream start through Union Berlin's Joel Pohjanpalo, who scored 1-0 on a header in the 5th minute - or did he? The goal was analysed through VAR, which showed that Pohjanpalo was offside with the smallest of margins.

Instead of 1-0 to Finland, it would be Russia who got to celebrate first through a goal in the end of the first half, signed Aleksei Miranchuk. The goal would be the only one to fall despite Finland having a few nice chances to equalize. For Finland their journey continues (and ends?) with a match against Belgium in St. Petersburg. Russia on the other hand will travel west to play Denmark in Copenhagen and Parken. If either team wants to reach the playoff a point will more than likely be needed in the third and last round.

09:11: After Round 1: Three players share top goalscorer spot

Ronaldo, Lukaku and Schick. That's the trio of top scorer's after the first round of matches. Each player has scored two goals, and at the time of writing Lukaku and Ronaldo are the favourites to remain in the top at the end of the tournament. Schick is not seen as a favourite despite his two goals against Scotland, which might not be surprising. The second round of play at EURO 2020/2021 begins today, and we can count on one or a few players to join the trio, or maybe even surpass them. The first match of the second round will be the one between Finland-Russia in St. Petersburg.

07:01: Austria's Arnautovic risks 10 match suspension

Austria's striker, Marko Arnautovic, could be out for the rest of EURO 2020/2021. The reason being that he verbally abused Ezgjan Alioski with racial slurs in the match against North Macedonia. After the incident Arnautovic have published an apology on his Instagram account.

"There was some heated words exchanged in the heat of the moment and I want to apologize for that. Especially to my friends in North Macedonia and Albania."

"I also want to say one thing as clear as possible: I am not a racist. I have friends in almost every country and I stand for diversity. Everyone who knows me is aware of that.", he says in his post.

The question is if UEFA will take the incident lightly or not, but the fact is that racist outbursts usually are punished severely. The latest signs point towards Arnautovic receiving a 10 match suspension for his actions.

It was in the mix of the celebrations of the 3-1 goal from Arnautovic that he insulted Ezgjan Alioski in Serbian. More than that, Arnautovic also made the "OK-sign" in the direction of Alioski. The sign is in some parts of the world a positive one, but in others it has a insulting meaning, and also one of racial superiority.

06:15: Parachuter injures two people at EURO 2020/2021

Just before kickoff in the much anticipated match between France and Germany in Munich, a parachuter came gliding into the arena and onto the pitch. Videos from the event shows the skydiver getting slightly stuck to wires of camera's in the arena, which changes his direction, and when he is about to crash into the audience he can finally redirect himself onto to the pitch and avoid a disaster. Despite avoiding a complete crash into the audience, the skydiver has seemingly injured two people in the stands on Allianz Arena. Two people were in need of medical attention and got sent to the hospital.

UEFA has later confirmed that two people were injured - a French journalist and an official responsible for the lights at Allianz Arena.

03:54: Rüdiger risks suspension after biting Pogba

The German defender, Antonio Rüdiger, looked a bit too hungry in the top meeting of Group F, where Germany took on France at Allianz Arena in Munich. In the end of the first half Rüdiger came up behind Pogba before a free throw, and by the looks of video material he took a bite of Pogba's back. None of the referees saw the incident, nor listened to Pogba's protests. The German defender should not feel safe yet though. In the 2014 World Cup a certain Luis Suarez faced a four month long suspension after biting Giorgio Chiellini, and the likelihood that Rüdiger will get punished too seems likely.

Paul Pogba was mostly just satisfied with the 3 points win by France, and he does not want to see Rüdiger punished for his actions.

"Me and "Tony" are friends. It was not a big deal to me. I think you have seen the footage - it's forgotten and we have moved on. I don't demand a yellow or red card for things like that. He nibbled on me a bit, but we have known each other for a long time", Pogba said.

00.37 Spain misstepped against Sweden

The Spanish team, considered one of the favourites to win Euro 2020, failed to defend their big goals after finishing 0-0 with Sweden at La Cartouche Stadium in Seville in their first Euro 2020 Group E match.

In the other match in Group E, Slovakia surprised Poland with a 2:1 win and proved to be the temporary leader after playing the first round. The Spaniards tried almost everything to reach the victory, but despite a massive possession a goal was not found. In fact, the Swedes themselves created a couple of scoring chances that should have been converted. In the next round, Sweden plays Slovakia, and Spain faces Poland, with matches on June 18th and 19th.

7.30 The head coach of the German national team, Joachim Löw, did not exclude the possibility of midfielder Leon Goretzka taking part in the match with France tonight.

The match is the first for both teams in Group "F" of Euro 2020.

"We agreed that we would talk after the last training session and then we would make a final decision," Low said.

Goretzka took part in the German training session on Sunday and left a very good impression on the coaching staff, as he seems to have overcome the thigh problems that have plagued him in recent weeks.

"According to our doctors, there is no risk to his health. However, he has not played for a very long time. So there is no way Goretzka can start as a starter," said Low.

9.03 Didier Deschamps: We have a big match ahead of us

The head coach of the world champion France, Didier Deschamps, said that the upcoming match with Germany will be very important for both teams. The last two world champions are in Group "F" of Euro 2020, which also includes the current European champions, Portugal, and Hungary.

"It will be a great match. For both Germany and us. Germany has one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the person of Manuel Neuer and a bunch of other top-class players," said Deschamps the day before the clash in Munich.

According to him, the match will not be crucial for the outcome of the group, but according to the French captain, Hugo Loris, he will play a key role.

"Germany is in the process of rejuvenation. But they have excellent players, they are a great football nation and they are very motivated. They also play at home. That is why the match will be not only key but also very difficult," said Loris.

9.36 Lewandowski admitted that he wants more passes

Polish star, Robert Lewandowski, could not shine in the match against Slovakia. His team lost 1:2 and significantly reduced their chances of continuing to the quarterfinals of Euro 2020.

"The red card weighed a lot. But even after that, I did not lose hope that we would score a second goal. Unfortunately, the opposite happened and we conceded a goal ", said Leva.

"On the one hand, it would be nice to get more passes and have more opportunities to shoot. But on the other hand, this is a European Championship and we must take advantage of every situation. I am aware that the clear positions will not be much ", shared the striker.

"Of course it will be difficult against Spain. They are a favourite not only in the group but also in the tournament. But when a team has a day, anything is possible. I hope this is exactly what will happen, "Lewandowski added.

10.02 Hamsik: Few expected us to win

Slovakia captain, Marek Hamsik, did not hide his joy at the victory over Poland. The Slovaks won 2:1 and are already aiming to qualify for the quarterfinals of Euro 2020.

"It's amazing, it's hard to put into words our joy. Few people expected us to take the win today, but we did it. It could have been better, I hadn't played a game in a month and it seemed hard. But we came. for victory and we achieved it ", said the midfielder.

The author of the winning goal, Milan Shkrinyar, was also satisfied.

"We are glad that we started the race with a victory. It was a difficult match, Poland is a quality team," said the Inter defender.

10:20: "We are what you saw in the second half", says Austria coach after historical triumph

Austria coach Franco Foda is delighted with the performance of his team and the 3:1 triumph over North Macedonia at Euro 2020. This is the first victory ever for Alpine in the European finals.

"Congratulations to the players, they made history today. David Alaba made a perfect match. Overall I am very pleased with our performance. We entered the game well, we played well with the ball. We wanted to increase the pace in the second half, trying to use the empty spaces that were not many ", the coach commented.

The Austrians broke their opponents with goals from the reserves Michael Gregoric and Marko Aranutovic in the final 12 minutes. "What you saw in the second half is us. We had more speed after the break. I can't miss how effective the substitutes were. Marko Arnautovic was injured in preparation, with only a few training sessions it was a little risky to start as a titular. When he is in top form, he is always a starter for me. I knew that Michael Gregoric would do a good job too, because he is getting better and better in training ", added Foda.

10:11: Sweden's Covid-19 issues continue

After the corona chaos in the Swedish squad, Mattias Svanberg is seemingly about to leave the team. According to Sportbladet, the head coach Janne Andersson, is considering scratching Svanberg and bringing in Jesper Karlsson as is replacement. The reasoning being that the midfielder from Bologna will not be able to recover for play in time for the first match against Spain, nor the second one against Slovakia. If Svanberg gets scratched, the AZ Alkmaar defender, Jesper Karlsson, is next in line. He is one of the six players who have been in the Swedish "reserve bubble" in Gothenburg, preparing to replace players in a case like this.

08:43: Axel Witsel and Kevin De Bruyne nearing comeback

Axel Witsel and Kevin De Bruyne both missed the opening game against Russia on Saturday. Reports say that the duo might be back in action as soon as the next group stage match. "Witsel is much further along than what we expected", said coach Roberto Martinez at a press conference on Sunday. "We are moving forward with both Witsel and De Bruyne. Axel has been practicing and I hope he will be ready for the next match. Kevin will practice with the team on Monday", Martinez added. If the coach will put the duo in the formation against Denmark on Thursday already remains to be seen. The likelihood that both players needs some practice time before they join the starting eleven is to be expected. While De Bruyne is a key player for Belgium, the team managed to impress without him against Russia in the opening game through an impressive 3-0 victory.

8:25: Marek Hamšík is ready for the match against Poland

The star of the national team of Slovakia, Marek Hamšík, has recovered and will be able to play in the debut match of the country at Euro 2020 against Poland. The match is today at 16.00 GMT in St. Petersburg.

"I feel healthy and fit. You don't qualify for the European Championship every day, especially when you're from a country like Slovakia," said the 33-year-old midfielder.

Slovakia debuted in the European finals of the championship in France in 2016. There the team reached the quarterfinals, where they lost against Germany. Due to calf problems, however, Hamsik did not play for the national team this year.

7:33: Sterling helped England achieve historical win

England beat Croatia 1-0 at Wembley in the first match of the battle in Group D of Euro 2020. Rahim Sterling scored the only goal in the 57th minute, throwing 22,500 fans in ecstasy of the "three lions". This was the first victory of the English in the opening match of the European Championship.

Both teams played in the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup, where the Croatians managed to snatch victory after extra time. The "three lions" then took an act of partial revenge for this defeat in the semifinals of the League of Nations tournament in November of that year, when they won 2: 1.

00:15: The Netherlands beat Ukraine 3-2 in a Group C match at Euro 2020.

About 20,000 spectators at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam saw the most entertaining match since the start of the championship. The hosts took a 2-0 lead at the beginning of the second half but Ukraine crawled themselves back to a surprising equalizer. However, a late goal by defender Denzel Dumfries brought three points to Frank de Boer's team.

The other goals for the "orange" were the work of Jorgeninho Vainaldum in the 52nd minute and Vaut Weghorst in the 59th. Andriy Yarmolenko reduced a quarter of an hour before the end, and Roman Yaremchuk (79 ') silenced the home fans until the deciding header by Dumfries came.

The Netherlands impressed with their dynamic and diversity in attack, but there are many weaknesses in terms of defence. Frank de Boer's team is unlikely to face problems in the group stage, and Ukraine will have to look for the maximum against North Macedonia and Austria if they want to get to the direct eliminations.

00.23 Referee Anthony Taylor's quick reaction and Danish captain Simon Kjaer were critical of saving Eriksen's life.

The Danish midfielder collapsed on the field during the match against Finland. The referee immediately realized how serious the situation was, stopped the game and called the medical team.

Kjaer was the first to come to Eriksen's aid and prevented his teammate from swallowing his tongue while he was unconscious. His intervention was crucial for Christian's survival.

Eriksen's teammates formed a wall around him while he was receiving medical treatment. Casper Schmeichel went to fetch and reassure his wife. The players and the coaches of Finland showed their respect and standing in the centre of the field applauded the players of Denmark, after their return to the field

8.15 Wales and Switzerland finished 1:1 in the second match of Group A of Euro 2020.

At the stadium in Baku, Vladimir Petkovic's team dominated the larger period of the match and took the lead with a goal by Brill Embolo in the 49th minute. In addition, he missed at least three or four more clear positions - mainly through Harris Seferovich. However, the opponent managed to equalize in the 74th minute, when Kiefer Moore was accurate with a header for 1:1. The goal would eventually secure Wales one point. In the other group match on Friday night, Italy defeated Turkey 3-0.

In the next round of the group, Wales will play again in Baku - against Turkey, and Switzerland will leave for Rome, where they will face "squadra azzurra". Both matches are on June 16.

9.10 The debutant of European championships, Finland, managed a big surprise and won with 1:0 as guests of Denmark at the stadium in Copenhagen.

The only goal was scored by Joel Pohjanpalo in the 60th minute, but the match will remain in history where extremely dramatic minutes turned into over an hour and a half when one of the stars of the "red dynamite" - Christian Eriksen, fainted on the field and received medical treatment for a long time, after which he was taken to hospital.

In the next round, Finland will face Russia, and Denmark will hope for a positive result against Belgium to continue dreaming of the next phase.

10.10 Romelu Lukaku scored two goals and Belgium won 3-0 against Russia in their first match of Group B of Euro 2020.

The match was played in St. Petersburg, but even that did not help the Russians, who were totally outplayed by one of the favorites for the title. Lukaku opened the scoring in the 10th minute, and in the 34th, Thomas Munier, who came in as a reserve, doubled the lead of the Belgians. Shortly before the end, the Inter striker scored for the final 3-0.

11.14 Romelu Lukaku was selected as a Player of the match between Belgium and Russia.

The striker scored two goals and the Red Devils won their first match of Euro 2020 with 3-0. Before the start of the match, the incident with Christian Eriksen in the match between Denmark and Finland led to Lukaku dedicating his goals to his teammate at Inter.

"I'm happy with the match, but it was difficult for me to play because my thoughts were with my teammate, Christian Eriksen. I hope he is healthy and I dedicate this performance to him." said the excited player.

"When I found out about what happened, I cried a lot because I was scared. We had many moments together. I spent more time with him than with my family. My thoughts are with him, his girlfriend, his children and his family," he added. .

00.35 Italy records a significant 3-0 victory over Turkey in the first match of Euro 2020.

The goals for the "Squadra Azzurra '' were scored by Merich Demiral (53 '- own goal), Ciro Imobile (66') and Lorenzo Insigne (79 ') in the second half. The Group A match was played at the Olimpico in Rome in front of about 16,000 spectators. This was the 28th consecutive game (23 wins, 5 draws) without a loss for the players of Roberto Mancini, who are in a series of 9 wins without conceding a goal. Thus, Italy lead the ranking in Group A with their first three points, and Turkey is left without an asset. The second match of the first round of this group, which is between Wales and Switzerland, will be played today.

07:34 Italian fan predicted the right result and right goalscorers in Italy's win.

Ahead of the match between Italy and Turkey an Italian fan with the Twitter handle @VaneJuice managed to predict the score of 0-3 for Italy, but that was not all - he also managed to predict all three scorers, including the own goal scored by Demiral. Vanejuice, who is an avid Lecce fan, nailed the two other scorers, Insigne and Immobile, perfectly too. What would have the odds been on that before kick-off? Astronomical without a doubt, especially with the own goal in mind. Check out the viral Tweet here. The tweet itself even got attention from UEFA's official Twitter account.

8.04 President of the Ukrainian Football Federation, Andriy Pavelko, revealed that a compromise has been reached with UEFA on the shirts with which the team will play at Euro 2020.

The problem was that Kiev angered Moscow by putting a map of Ukraine on their shirts, including the Crimean peninsula which was annexed by Russia in 2014. In addition, the T-shirts have the inscription "Glory to the heroes", which according to the Russians is a Nazi slogan from World War II.

"We managed to reach a compromise with UEFA after very difficult negotiations," Pavelko revealed through his Facebook account.

In the end, they will not remove the inscription in question from Ukraine, but will cover it up by inserting it as part of the emblem of the T-shirts. The map will not be removed either, as according to Pavelka, the annexation of Crimea is not recognized by the United Nations.

9.00 Roberto Martinez: We will not bend because of the high expectations

Belgium coach, Roberto Martinez, is optimistic before the first match of his team at Euro 2020. The Red Devils have been identified as one of the big favorites to win the tournament and the coach believes that this is completely justified. He is not worried about this fact and does not believe that it will have a negative impact on the performance of his team.

"It's not our first time. In the last three years, the team has achieved consistency in its performances and this has affected our ranking in the world rankings" - a ranking in which Belgium is №1 in.. "I believe that the expectations for us are higher and more and more neutral spectators are watching the performances of our team. But that doesn't change anything. I do not believe that this team will bend below the high expectations. I think we have enough experience to deal with this situation," Martinez said.

Today, Belgium will start their participation in the European finals with a match against Russia from Group "B" in St. Petersburg.

10.25 Denmark accepts the role of a hidden favorite

The Danish nationals are happy to accept the role of a hidden favorite for the Euro 2020 trophy and are fully prepared for the challenges ahead. They start the tournament against Finland today, and this match is only the first of a total of three home games for the "red dynamite" at the national stadium "Parken". Denmark has played a series of good matches and some analysts believe the team could win the European Championship, just like they did in 1992. The Danes were then included late as substitutes for the former Yugoslavia.

"It's probably because we have good results, we play good football and it's worth sitting and watching us. The confidence in our team is great and it's one of the last ingredients for a winning team. To become one, we first have a few obstacles in front of us", said playmaker Christian Eriksen before the start of the European Championship.

The first opponent is the Finnish team, which will play in a major tournament for the first time in history. "It's super important to make a good start to the championship", said central defender Simon Kjaer.

In its second match in Group B, Denmark faces the Belgian team, which is ranked No. 1 in the FIFA rankings. This puts the "red dynamite" in a position for a mandatory victory against the Finns, who will meet Russia in their next match. "We are well prepared and have a balanced squad. We also have the energy for this tournament and we are happy to play in it. We respect our rivals and we think we are equal to everyone", said coach Casper Hjulmand.

10:30 Turkey coach Shenol Gunesh shared his expectations for his team's first Euro 2020 match against Italy.

The coach knows how serious the rival of his team is. However, he is adamant that his team can win.

"It is a great honor for us to play in the opening match of the championship. We are grateful that we have come this far and I want to thank everyone who helped us with this. Italy has a great team and we have great respect for them. For the first time, Turkey will play in an opening match, and for three of my players this will be the first match of the European Championship. Mancini knows Turkey well because he worked in Galatasaray, but we are going to win," Gunesh said.

"In every tournament, the first and last match are the most important. If we lose this match, it will immediately upset the balance in our group and we will have to catch up in the other matches in Baku. In 2002, Turkey went to the World Cup with inexperienced players and did great. The same thing can happen here. At least the mood is the same. All of us - players and coaches - have one goal. We are all moving in one direction. I hope to have a good match, a pleasant match ... and to win ", said the coach.

11.34 Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he feels like he will participate in his first European Championship.

The Sailors will try to defend the title they won at Euro 2016, and the team relies heavily on the Juventus striker to be the big leader. However, the first task will be to get out of the "Group of Death" (group "F") with France, Germany and Hungary.

"I respect all the teams and I know that there will be no easy matches. I feel like I'm going to my first European Championship. Now I am as motivated as I was in 2004, when I first participated in the European finals. Maybe I'm even more motivated than then. We are the current champion and again we are one of the favorites to win the trophy. There is no point in threatening and making predictions. "The only thing I can promise is that we will play to win every game," Ronaldo said.

11:57 Italy coach Roberto Mancini spoke before the opening match of Euro 2020 between Squadra Azzurra and Turkey.

The two teams open the European finals today at 22:00. The coach admitted that his team has great ambitions for the championship, but added that the first match is always the most difficult.

"We can already see the light at the end of the tunnel. We want to make people happy and entertain them for at least 90 minutes. In such big forums, even people who don't watch football all the time watch the matches. That is why we know how important it is for everyone. The first match is always the hardest. We need to shake off the tension and think of nothing but how to get the job done. There will be a little more tension, because this is the first match in the tournament, and Turkey is a team full of talent. But this remains a normal football match and we have to think exactly that way, "said Mancini.

12:35 Andy Robertson supports the decision of the Scottish national team, who will not kneel before the start of their matches of the European Football Championship.

They also received the green light from the Scottish Football Federation, which, however, guarantees that it will not stop the fight against racism and discrimination.

"We will not stop our fight against racism and we know how important it is for people to understand that it is time to change not only our thinking but also our actions. Even before the world qualifiers in March, we said that the fight against racism needed actions, not just gestures." Robertson was quoted as saying by the federation.

Euro 2020 starts today. Scotland is in Group D with the teams of England, the Czech Republic and Croatia.

13:35 Belgium coach Roberto Martinez will not be able to count on two of the big stars in the team for the start of Euro 2020.

Midfielders Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard will not be able to play in the first match of the Red Devils in the tournament against Russia on June 12 . They have not recovered from their injuries and this is taking them out of the accounts.

Hazard has not played for much of last season due to an injury from which he is still unable to recover. De Bruyne received a blow to the head during the Champions League final and has a broken nose and a bone fracture near his left eye. The hopes are that both will be ready for the second match of the championship.

"I hope I can play in the second game. I still feel a little pain, but overall I'm much better. "Sometimes I have to wear sunglasses, but that's not always possible," De Bruyne said.

16.40: Llorente is healthy and could be playing against Sweden

On Tuesday the announcement was made that Spain's defender, Diego Llorente, had tested positive for Covid-19. Now, only two days later, the Leeds player is seemingly fit for play in the opening match against Sweden. After two negative tests, Llorente has been declared healthy and available for play on the 14th of June.

After the negative tests the speculation is now running hot that the initial positive test could have been incorrect. Check out everything ahead of Spain - Sweden in our EURO guide.

14.48: UEFA demands that Ukraine changes their EURO kit

Ukraine's EURO football kit has created a heated debate in Russia. The reasoning being that the Ukranian shirts have a silhouette of the Ukrainian flag, which includes the, by Russia, annexed Crimean peninsula. The phrase "Glory to the Heroes" is also printed on the inside of the shirts, which has been used for anti-Russian protests in the past.

The Russian criticism has now led to UEFA acting, and demaning Ukraine to change their politically loaded shirts before the tournament gets underway. The phrase seems to be where the line was drawn and UEFA assesses the phrase as "clearly political".

14.20: After the positive Covid-19 cases: Sweden calls in reserve players

Following the positive Covid-19 tests for Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg, the Swedish head coach, Janne Anderson, has called in six players in a "reserve bubble". The Swedish extra's consists of Mattias Johansson (Gençlerbirliği), Joakim Nilsson (Arminia Bielefeld), Niklas Hult (Hannover), Jesper Karlsson (AZ Alkmaar), Jacob Rinne (AaB Ålborg) and Isaac Kiese Thelin (Kasımpaşa).

The six players will train and be completely isolated from the Swedish EURO squad, until their services might be needed. It's expected that a final decision will be made on Sunday in regards to if any of the players will travel to Spain for the opening match.

UEFA's rules state that the team can make an unlimited amount of changes in the squads until their first match if "serious injuries" or illnesses get in the way of players participating. Players who have tested positive for Covid-19 fall under this category, and can as such be substituted.

13.59: Lorenzo Pellegrini will miss EURO 2020/2021 due to an injury

The Roma star, Lorenzo Pellegrini, has thrown in the towel for EURO after suffering an injury. Just one day before the EURO opening match between Italy and Turkey the news hit that Pellegrini won't be available. Pellegrini was one of the best players in Roma last season with 11 goals and 9 assists to his name.

His success has gathered a lot of interest from top clubs, and for example FC Barcelona is said to be interested in the 24-year old. Italy's head coach, Roberto Mancini, has picked Gaetano Castrovilli (Fiorentina) as the replacement for Pellegrini.
