Lebron James breaks all-time NBA scoring record

LeBron James has overtaken Kareem Abdul-Jabber’s record to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. 38 year-old Los Angeles Lakers star James, notched 38 points against Oklahoma City Thunder to take his tally to 38,390. Fellow Lakers legend Abdul-Jabbar’s mark of 38,387 had stood for almost 39 years. He set the record in April 1984, eight months before James was born.

An emotional James raised both arms in triumph after setting the record at the end of the third quarter, while Abdul-Jabbar, who was sitting courtside, stood and applauded.

Despite James’ landmark the Lakers couldn’t claim victory as Thunder won the match 133-130.

James is widely considered to be one of the greatest players in history and is often compared to Michael Jordan in debates over the sport’s GOAT. James has won four NBA championships, four NBA MVP awards, four NBA Finals MVP awards, three All-Star MVP awards, and two Olympic gold medals. He has scored the most career points in both the regular season and playoffs, has the fourth-most career assists, and the tenth-most career steals. He has been named an NBA All-Star a record-equaling 19 times, and has been selected for the  All-NBA Team a record 18 times.  He has competed in 10 NBA Finals, including eight consecutively between 2011 and 2018.

Nicknamed “King James”, in 2021 he was selected to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, and in 2022 became the first and only player in NBA history to accumulate over 10,000 career points, rebounds, and assists.
