Marsch emerges as favourite
Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch, 49, has emerged as the new favourite to replace Nathan Jones at Southampton. Jones, 49, was sacked after just 95 days in charge of the Saints.
Marsch himself was sacked by Leeds, who like Southampton are struggling near the foot of the table, after less than a year in charge earlier this month. However, it is possible that he could be given a route back into football with the South Coast club.
Ex Rangers and Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard, who was the early favourite, has seen his odds drift, but the former Liverpool midfielder remains in contention. Former West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has emerged as a contender. Ruben Selles is thought to be the number one choice if the Southampton board look to someone within the club, while ex manager Ralph Hasenhuttl could make a rapid return to the St Mary’s dugout. Hasenhuttl was sacked by Southampton in November but he could still be the man who the Saint’s board turn to. Many bookies have him as third favourite.
