Tip: Draw and both teams to score: 9/2: William Hill
There is far more than local pride at stake in Monday evening’s Merseyside derby. Both teams desperately need a result, in what has been a bitterly disappointing campaign for both Reds and Blues on Merseyside.
Liverpool, currently 10th in the Premier League head into the fixture hoping to end a run of four league games without a win in 2023. Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled for rhythm and consistency all season and need to start putting results together if they are to climb the table. With a Champions League last 16 tie with Real Madrid on the horizon, the Reds need to find some form quickly.
Everton’s new manager Sean Dyche enjoyed an excellent win over Arsenal in his first game in charge. The Toffees must build on that result if they are to pull away from the bottom of the table. Dyche’s side go into the match third from bottom.
Diogo Jota, who has been out for three months with a calf injury, could come back into contention. However, the game may come too soon for Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk and Arthur. Fabinho could return after illness but Thiago is rated as doubtful with a hip issue and Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate both look set to miss out.
Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a hamstring problem and is rated as extremely doubtful. Defender Michael Keane played in a behind-closed-doors game during the week and is working back to fitness, however, the derby may come too soon for him. James Garner and Ben Godfrey are both back in training after long-term injuries, it is thought that both will not yet be available.
