Community Shield Betting Tips & Predictions

Liverpool and Manchester City meet in the 2022/23 season curtain-raiser at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.

Six-time Community Shield winners and defending Premier League champions Manchester City face Liverpool in Leicester on Saturday.

The two teams have dominated English football over the last few years, but this is their first Community Shield meeting since a 1-1 draw ended in a Liverpool penalty shootout win in 2019.

Spot kicks have decided the Community Shield three times since 2017 – will a shootout be required on Saturday?

Result After 90 Minutes: Draw

13/5 (Unibet)

Three of the last five meetings between these two sides have ended in a draw. While the Community Shield is often a glorified friendly, this should be a bit more intense given the rivalry between City and Liverpool.

Both teams are at almost full strength, with Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez expected to make their respective debuts.

It’s not going to be as competitive as their Premier League duels, but both will be keen to avoid defeat. Sitting on the fence with a draw represents decent value here.

Anytime Goalscorer: Erling Haaland

7/5 (Unibet)

Despite minimal preseason action to date, Erling Haaland is expected to lead the line. The Norwegian is as prolific as it gets and averaged more than a goal-per-start in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

Now part of an historically potent attacking team, Haaland is going to get plenty of chances, even when matched up against Virgil van Dijk.

The deserving favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, Haaland is a good wager at this price.

Both Teams To Score: Yes

4/6 (Bet365)

Both teams have scored in eight of the last nine meetings. It’s not a surprise that BTTS is at such short odds, but it shouldn’t be overlooked.

While some players will be a bit rusty after a limited preseason, there’s enough quality on these two sides to generate a lot of goal scoring opportunities.
