Peru vs Colombia Betting Tips & Predictions

It’s time to decide who will win bronze at Copa America 2021, and we will see Colombia and Peru clash in the hunt for a medal. Both teams have previously won the South American championship, Colombia in 2001 and Peru in 1939 and 1975. This time around a third place finish will have to do, since both teams fell to the big favourites, Argentina and Brazil, in their respective semi-finals.

Ahead of the tournament we had a betting tip for Colombia as winner of it all, but that was before they got stripped of hosting Copa America 2021. With the home advantage gone the odds rose a fair bit for the Colombians, but Reinaldo Rueda and his men were close to reaching the final despite that. In their semi-final against Argentina they pushed the match all the way to penalties, but there they fell short.

Peru put up a fight in their semi-final against Brazil as well, and the 0-1 loss is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. After the losses both teams now have a chance to leave Copa America with a medal around their necks, but who will gather energy and step up to the plate?

A quick look at the betting odds provided by the bookmakers tells us that Colombia are quite clear favourites. A bet for Colombia to end 3rd in the tournament lands at odds of 1.40, while Peru reaches upwards of 3.00.

Betting Tips: Over 2.5 Goals for odds 2.10+

In the second last match of Copa America 2021 we have decided to go against the grain and statistics. The reason is that we are talking about a bronze match, which usually means that nerves and tension is usually gone, and the fear of losing is not as big anymore. Generally bronze matches in Copa America offer quite a few goals, and 7 out of the 8 last have actually beat the line.

This gives us good hope that Colombia vs Peru can produce quite a few goals. When the teams met in the group stage it ended 2-1, and odds of 2.10+ definitely feel like a great option here.

Peru vs Colombia Copa America Game Analysis, Odds and Betting Predictions

Colombia fought heroically against Argentina in their semi-final, and penalties were needed to separate the teams. Edwin Cardona, Yerry Mina and Davinson Sanchez all missed their penalties and as Argentina only had one failure the 3-2 penalty score was settled. Missing a spot in the finals in this fashion is for obvious reasons a heavy loss, but Colombia can bring a lot of good things with them too.

In the semi-final between Brazil and Peru most people expected an easy win for the host nation, but that was not reality at all even if the win was bagged. Lucas Paqueta scored the only goal of the match, and while Brazil had good control of the happenings it definitely came close. If Peru would have been more accurate when chances were given we could have been looking at a different situation. Peru now have to re-focus and their goal is to take their fourth Copa America medal in five tournaments - not a bad track record.

Peru - Overview & Facts

The hopes of Peru reaching a Copa America final were not very big ahead of the semi-final against Brazil. Taking on the South American giants on their home soil is something few teams on the continent sees as realistic. Still Peru managed to put up a good fight, even after going through a draining extra time battle in their quarter-final against Paraguay, which Peru eventually won by penalties. The lack of energy also became quite visible towards the end of the match, even if a few chances arose to scare Brazil. At the end of it all it was still clear that Tite and the Brazilian superstars were too much to handle for the Peruvians.

Peru to win Copa America

Peru has acted as the underdog in several of their matches at Copa America 2021, and the bronze match against Colombia is no exception. Despite winning against them in the group stage the odds are heavily in favor of Colombia succeeding. This makes us believe there could be a bit of value on the side of the Peruvians, and an underdog bet certainly makes sense here.

Peru is a team that relies on hard work and the team functioning as a unit, even more so after not bringing Farfan and Guerrerro to the tournament. The team has done well without their star players, and making the top four at Copa America ahead of teams like Uruguay and Chile is an achievement already.

Peru’s Five Latest:

  • Brazil - Peru 1-0
  • Peru - Paraguay 4-3 (after penalties)
  • Venezuela - Peru 0-1
  • Ecuador - Peru 2-2
  • Colombia - Peru 1-2

Peru has scored quite a few more goals than their upcoming opponent, but they have also conceded considerably more. Ricardo Gareca and his men have found net 8 times, but have also conceded 11. The duo of Andre Carrillo and Gianluca Lapadula leads the internal scoring with two each. The good news is that Carrillo is back in play after being out against Brazil in the semi-final.

Colombia - Overview & Facts

Colombia lost against Argentina with their heads held high after a tough and intensive clash where either team could have won. 10 yellow cards were awarded in total, the possession was won by Colombia 51-49, and both teams had four shots on target. If Colombia can produce a similar performance against Peru in the upcoming match, then the feeling is that they will snatch the bronze. How motivated are they though?

In a bronze match there is usually room for some changes, so we should not expect the same starting eleven for Colombia as against Argentina. Head coach Rueda will need to find the players with 100% motivation to get the job done. The Atalanta duo, Zapata and Muriel, is far from a given here, and both could start on the bench. Zapata started against Argentina, but got substituted after about 60 minutes, and Muriel didn’t get any playtime at all. In fact, he has totalled only 157 minutes in all of Copa America 2021.

Colombia’s Five Latest:

  • Argentina - Colombia 2-1 (after penalties)
  • Uruguay - Colombia 0-1 (after penalties)
  • Brazil - Colombia 2-1
  • Colombia - Peru 1-2
  • Colombia - Venezuela 0-0

Colombia has not been involved in matches with a lot of goals, and scoring 4 goals in 6 matches at full time is nothing to brag about. The offensive struggles have without a doubt been the downfall of Colombia in this tournament, and still they are here, fighting for a medal.

Peru vs Colombia Head - to - Head Analysis
