Brazil vs Chile Betting Tips & Predictions

The host nation, Brazil, will face Chile in the second quarter-final of Copa America 2021. A meeting where the Brazialians are heavily favored, especially considering how each team has performed in the group stage. Brazil won Group B without sweating all too much, and they even rotated heavily in the squad in the last round against Ecuador, which resulted in the first lost points with a 1-1 draw.

Chile had a tougher time to make it through to the knockout stage. In total they mustered only one win, against the last placed Bolivia. There was certainly not much to be happy about when watching Chile play, and in the last round the men of Lasarte stepped on a mine and lost to Paraguay, 0-2. It’s impossible to do any kind of mental gymnastics to find a way for Chile to challenge a star studded Brazilian team in the hunt for a 10th title.

The bookmakers certainly agree with our assessment of the situation. The odds for Brazil to advance to the semifinals are around 1.20-1.25 while Chile plays over 4.00. An 80-20 split in favor of Brazil, and if anything we have to say that could even be too generous for Chile.

Betting Tip: Brazil + under 4.5 goals to odds 1.55+

Brazil has produced one win after another, but after 10 straight victories the streak came to an end against Ecuador as the squad was heavily rotated. When the quarter-final against Chile is up next the head coach will certainly not be saving any energy, and with the best players back on the pitch we expect Brazil to demolish a weak Chilean team.

Chile has been a disappointment this far, and now they are also plagued by a big issue - the star, Alexis Sanchez might be missing for the match. The home victory here feels rock-solid, and together with the under 4.5 goal line we can get odds of 1.60+, which feels very good. Historically meetings between these teams don’t see a lot of goals, and in case Brazil gets a comfortable lead they will bring down the tempo to save energy. Shall we say 2-0 Brazil?

Brazil vs Chile Copa America Game Analysis, Odds and Betting Predictions

Chile’s golden generation from the middle of the 2010:s is coming towards its end, and the question is what players will take over after Isla, Medel, Bravo, Sanchez and Vidal in the future? A big generation shift is knocking on the door, but it’s not all doom and gloom. A few players stand out as very promising, namely Ben Brereton from Blackburn Rovers and Francisco Sieralta from Watford. Both players have their best years ahead of them, and are looking very promising to become the backbone of Chile in a few years.

Just by looking at the squad of these two teams it instantly becomes clear who has the advantage, and a big one at that. The Brazilian squad in Copa America is by Transfermarkt valued at over 900 million euro, while Chile is more modest 88-90 million. A squad valued 10 times higher than their opponents is certainly no joke, but matches are decided on the pitch of course. In Brazil we can find players like Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, Firmino , Richarlison and Everton that create an incredibly deadly offense, but the defence is no slouches either - or how about having a centre lock consisting of Thiago Silva and Marquinhos? Scary to say the least.

Brazil - Overview & Facts

How much more can we praise and compliment the Brazialian squad at Copa America? There is just so much talent all the way from the goalkeepers, Alisson and Ederson, to a defence with Marquinhos, Silva, Danilo and Alex Sandro, and then to an offense that we have already told you about enough. If this team fails to make the final it would be a big fiasco, especially being the hosts of the tournament.

Brazil to win Copa America

All the way to the quarter-final, Brazil has yet to face a real challenge. Dropping points against Ecuador looks bad on paper, but with almost an entire eleven being rested we should not put any weight into that result. On paper the only real challenge for Brazil should have been Colombia, and while they were down 0-1, the Brazilians managed to win it 2-1 in the end.

If Neymar and his buddies wake up on the right side of the bed they should have no issues putting Chile aside, a team that has their best days behind them. The away team needs to put all their trust in their defence in this match, but with the immense firepower of Brazil it really should not be able to hold for 90 minutes.

Brazil’s Five Latest:

  • Brazil - Ecuador 1-1 (Copa America)
  • Brazil - Colombia 2-1 (Copa America)
  • Brazil - Peru 4-0 (Copa America)
  • Venezuela - Brazil 0-3 (Copa America)
  • Paraguay - Brazil 0-2 (WC Qualification)

If we look at the World Cup qualification, then there’s nothing much to note for Brazil as a potential negative. They have won six matches in a row with an impressive 16-2 goal differential. The only team who managed to score against Brazil at all is Peru, who scored twice in a 4-2 Brazil win. The head coach, Tite, is sailing on calm waters with his team, and he has abundant options to choose from each and every match.

Expected Starting 11:

Ederson; Danilo, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Sandro; Richarlison, Fabinho, Casemiro, Everton; Neymar, Jesus

Chile - Overview & Facts

Chile will need to utilize every opportunity they can get in this match, especially on set pieces like corners and free kicks. With three goals scored in four matches, Chile is the second worst team in all of Copa America 2021, and that will not cut it against the giants awaiting them.

It’s noteworthy that Eduardo Vargas has had a finger in all of the Chilean goals thus far. He scored twice himself and assisted the third one. If Chile is going to have any chance against Brazil, then a player like Vidal has to step up, and even more so if Alexis Sanchez will be unavailable for the match.

Chile to win Copa America

Chile possesses a squad that is one of the most experienced of all in Copa America. Claudio Bravo in goal, to a defensive line with players like Medel, Isla and Mena, all the way to the offense with Vidal and Vargas. Still, for Chile to succeed in this quarter-final, the team will have to put forth their best performance, by far, in the tournament. And at the same time Brazil would probably have to be half asleep still.

Chile’s Five Latest:

  • Chile - Paraguay 0-2 (Copa America)
  • Uruguay - Chile 1-1 (Copa America)
  • Chile - Bolivia 1-0 (Copa America)
  • Argentina - Chile 1-1 (Copa America)
  • Chile - Bolivia 1-1 (WC Qualification)

The fact that Chile can challenge even the best in South America is something that got proven several times over in recent years. Even here in this championship, they managed to snatch a point against Argentina. So there is a spark of hope against Brazil too, even if the chances are for obvious reasons small.

In the World Cup qualification Chile has not impressed though, and after six matches they have six points. The only win has come through 2-0 at home against Peru. Other than that the results are three draws and two losses (against Venezuela and Uruguay).

Expected Starting 11:

Bravo; Isla, Medel, Maripan, Mena; Vidal, Aranguiz, Alarcon, Pulgar; Brereton, Vargas

Brazil vs Chile Head - to - Head Analysis

Brazil and Chile are two teams who know each other well at this point. In total the teams have faced each other 72 times, and it would be no exaggeration to say that Brazil is dominating. 51 wins in the way of Brazil, and 8 for Chile tells a clear story. The previous H2H was played quite far back, in 2017, in the South American WC qualifiers. That time Brazil took a convincing 3-0 win at home in Sao Paulo.
