Brazil vs Argentina Betting Tips & Predictions

After the semi-finals ended in Copa America 2021 it was clear that we will get a dream final between the two giants of South America: Brazil and Argentina, two of the biggest rivals in football history. The meeting is also known as Clásico de las Américas. The first match between the two was played in Buenos Aires in 1914, and since then 111 matches have been settled.

Before kick-off it should be noticed that Argentina is listed as the home team in the final, despite Brazil being the hosts. The bookmakers have made the case clear - Brazil are clear favourites. At the time of writing a bet on Brazil to conquer the gold pays around 1.40-1.45 compared to 2.80-3.00 for Argentina. In terms of probabilities a 70-30 advantage for the hosts.

When it comes to the Over/Under goal markets the odds are pushed towards a match lacking goals. A bet on under 2.5 goals currently stands at odds of 1.60, compared to 2.40-2.60 for the over line. The bookmakers have made it clear - Brazil are likely to win a match with just a goal or two.

Betting Tip: Both Team to Score (BTTS): No - odds 1.70+

Copa America 2021 has certainly not been a goal scoring show. 26 matches have in total offered 59 goals for an average of 2.27 goals per game, which we could compare to 2.80 over at EURO 2020. A clear proof of what knowledgeable bettors have been aware of for a long time, South American football is heavily focused on defensive play.

There are several points speaking for a low scoring Copa America final this time around, especially with past matches and statistics. In the five latest matches between Brazil and Argentina it has always ended with either team failing to score. This is also true for 4 of the 5 latest Copa America finals. The odds are definitely limited for the under markets or the BTTS: No that we are going with, but we still believe there is value to be found.

Brazil vs Argentina Copa America Game Analysis, Odds and Betting Predictions

Neither Brazil - Peru nor Argentina - Colombia ended up offering a lot of goals. In the first semi-final, Brazil scored the one and only goal of the match as Lucas Paqueta converted after an amazing performance and assist by Neymar. In Argentina’s match against Colombia we saw one more goal, but the match will mostly be remembered as a yellow card party. 10 yellow cards were awarded as Argentina secured their spot in the final.

If we take a quick look at the two squads in the Copa America final, it’s no surprise that they are the two highest valued in the tournament. Transfermarkt values the Brazilian squad at about 910 million euro, while the Argentinian lands a bit lower at 650 million. The market value is not something we should pay too much attention to in a match like this though. It will be the best performing team of the day who will pull through. If that will be Brazil or Argentina is a tough question, but we should note that the home advantage has played a major role historically. That factor is slightly negated now though, as no fans are allowed at the arena.

Brazil - Overview & Facts

The host nation has reached a final just like expected after 1-0 against Peru in the semi-final. It was however not a magical show we got to see from Tite and his men. The first half was dominated by Brazil and they also managed to take a 1-0 lead. The lead led to a more passive Brazil not willing to take any risks, and this gave Peru a way back into the match. At the end of the day they didn’t manage more than a few half chances, and the Brazilians going to the final was well deserved.

Brazil being the favourites in the final is not much of a discussion, they should be. The question is if it hasn’t swung a bit too much in their favor though? The home advantage is a part of this, but with no crowd allowed we are not sure if the advantage is actually that big at all.

In the match against Peru, Tite started with an offensive 4-5-1 formation where Casemiro and Fred took the defensive responsibility in the midfield. The trio of Everton, Paqueta and Neymar positioned above them, and on top we saw Richardlison from the start. He was later substituted out for Real Madrid’s coming superstar, Junior Vinicius.

If Messi is the massive star for Argentina, then Neymar is the man of the talk for Brazil. The 29-year old forward was once again a big part of the success as Brazil knocked out Peru. His assist to the 1-0 goal was a real treat that will be on highlight reels for years to come. Neymar is also a more dangerous goalscorer than Messi for their national teams. In 110 matches, Neymar has scored 68 goals for a 0.62 average, which is slightly higher than Messi. At Copa America 2021 the Argentinian still holds a point lead with 4+5 compared to Neymar at 2+3.

Brazil’s Five Latest:

  • Brazil - Peru 1-0
  • Brazil - Chile 1-0
  • Brazil - Ecuador 1-1
  • Brazil - Colombia 2-1
  • Brazil - Peru 4-0

After winning 1-0 in both their quarter and semi-final, Brazil now stands in front of another Copa America final, the 21st to be exact. Tite has seen his team score 12 goals only concede 2 this far in the tournament, and it sure shows how dominant they are in South America.

Expected Starting 11:

Ederson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Lodi; Casemiro; Fred, Paquetá; Everton, Neymar, Richarlison.

We expect more or less the same eleven from the start as against Peru, where Gabriel Jesus was missing due to the red card he took against Chile in the quarter-final. This is also true for the upcoming final, as Jesus remains suspended.

Argentina - Overview & Facts

Lionel Messi is only one match from finally getting his hand on a major title with his Argentina. The final will however present the biggest obstacle they have faced thus far, and also the first time Argentina will enter as the underdog. If there is someone who can stop the Brazilians' dominance in Copa America 2021, it is them though. The Argentinians are in the hunt for their 15th Copa title, and this is a massive match for Messi especially. The magician has turned 34 years old and this could be one of the last, if not the last chance to add the most precious of metals in the cabinet with the Argentinian national team.

We might be bringing Lionel Messi up a lot, but this year he definitely has made a good case for that. Before the final the superstar has scored 4 goals and assisted another 5, making him the most productive player in the tournament. But even if Messi has been outstanding, there are several other players in Argentina to highlight.

One of them is Messi’s forward partner: Lautaro Martinez, who has scored three goals so far. Worth noting is that he also scored Argentina’s only goal in the semi-final against Colombia, eventually good enough to bring the match to penalties and a win. Martinez is red hot, and he has scored in three matches a row - maybe he will be the hero in the Copa America final instead of Neymar or Messi?

Argentina’s Five Latest:

  • Argentina - Colombia 2-1 (after penalties)
  • Argentina - Ecuador 3-0
  • Bolivia - Argentina 1-4
  • Argentina - Paraguay 1-0
  • Argentina - Uruguay 1-0

Argentina have scored 11 goals at Copa America 2021, out which 7 have come through Messi or Martinez. Three goals have been conceded, which is a great track record for Emiliano Martinez and the centre back lock with Pezzella and Otamendi. Can they keep that up against a deadly Brazilian team though?

Expected Starting 11:

E Martinez; Molina, Pezzella, Otamendi, Acuna; Paredes, De Paul, Lo Celso; Messi, González, L Martinez

Stars like Di Maria and Aguero have not been in the starting eleven more than once at Copa America, and much speaks for both starting on the bench against Brazil too. The trio of Messi, Gonzalez and Martinez seems to be the offensive trio that head coach, Scaloni, prefers.

Brazil vs Argentina Head - to - Head Analysis

The H2H between Brazil and Argentina is a close race with a slight lead for the hosts of Copa America 2021. The lead is 46-40 for the Brazilians, with 26 matches ending in a draw. In the five latest matches Brazil have a 3-2 lead, but Argentina did win the latest battle - a 1-0 win in Superclasico de las Americas after a goal by Messi. That was back in 2019 though, and doesn’t necessarily say much for how these teams are matching up today.
