West Brom v Watford Betting Tips & Predictions

Championship

Having beaten Sheffield United in their season opener, Watford are away to West Brom in the Championship’s Monday night fixture.

Two of the leading candidates for promotion meet at the Hawthorns on Monday night, with West Brom looking for their first win of the season after drawing with Middlesbrough on the opening weekend.

Watford are slight underdogs for this one. Curiously, this is the first game between these sides in the Championship since 2010, though they have met six times in the Premier League with West Brom claiming just one victory.

Total Cards: Over 4.5

5/4 (Paddy Power)

There were seven cards when Watford took on Sheffield United last week, and a similarly physical game is expected under the lights in the Midlands on Monday.

The Baggies were shown 87 cards in 2021-22 (17 teams had more) and only had one yellow against Middlesbrough, but they made 18 tackles and clocked nine fouls last time out. Plus, they were in the top 10 in fouls committed last term.

Watford could this over on their own, having had four bookings at Vicarage Road seven days ago, while West Brom are bound to contribute a card or two with their knack for fouling.

Anytime Goalscorer: Joao Pedro

3/1 (Sportingindex)

Scorer of Watford’s winner over Sheffield United, Joao Pedro is the main man for the Hornets this season despite scoring just three goals in the Premier League in 2021-22.

The 20-year-old scored nine in 31 Championship starts two seasons ago, and he’s only improved as a player since then.

He might not have a prolific track record, but Pedro is set for a big season in the second tier. This is a good price on the former Fluminense man to make it two in two.

Result: Draw

9/4 (Betfred)

Four of the last nine matches between these sides have ended in a draw. West Brom manager Steve Bruce is naturally cautious, and a draw at the Hawthorns is a decent result for Watford at this stage of the season.

Both teams have the personnel to make this a cagey match. Despite Watford having a talent advantage with Ismaila Sarr and Emmanuel Dennis still at the club, the two sides are relatively well-matched and they could cancel each other out.
