The two favourites to progress from Group G, both Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund won in emphatic fashion in the first round of fixtures.
Dortmund dispatched Copenhagen 3-0, while City put four past Sevilla.
It has been an inconsistent start to the new season for the German side, however. A run of three consecutive wins came to an end at the weekend as they fell 3-0 to RB Leipzig.
Both Teams To Score: Yes
Both teams scored in both legs when these sides faced off in the last 16 two seasons ago. A lot has changed since then, of course, including Erling Haaland pulling on a light blue jersey rather than the yellow and black of Dortmund.
There is no question that City will get on the scoresheet at home. Their defence has also allowed plenty of chances this season, despite recent clean sheets against Nottingham Forest and Sevilla.
Dortmund’s loss to Leipzig was the first time they have failed to score this term. Even with a considerable injury list, they will fancy their chances of scoring at least once.
Total Cards: Under 3.5
Manchester City have been shown just four cards in the Premier League and didn’t go into the referee’s notebook at all against Sevilla.
Dortmund did not get shown a card on matchday one either, and their tally of 13 yellows in six Bundesliga matches isn’t extreme.
This should be more competitive, and possibly physical, than their respective matchday one outings, but early season disciplinary records suggest the referee won’t have too much to do.
To Score Two Or More Goals: Erling Haaland
Haaland scored 86 goals in 89 matches for Borussia Dortmund. He has got off to a flyer with City, scoring 12 goals in seven matches, including a brace away to Sevilla.
There isn’t exactly much of a point to prove against his former team, but Haaland will be keen to keep up this purple patch.
His Champions League returns have been outrageous, dating back to his time with Salzburg. Having scored two or more in three of the last four, this is a decent price.
