Liverpool v Ajax Betting Tips & Predictions

Liverpool are 10/17 favourites for the visit of Ajax on Tuesday night despite suffering a harrowing defeat at the hands of Napoli on matchday one.

Their weekend fixture with Chelsea might have been postponed, but Liverpool’s midweek match with Ajax is going ahead. Jurgen Klopp’s side are in need of a win after a poor start to the season.

Ajax have been in typically imperious form domestically, and continued in that manner in the Champions League, battering Rangers 4-0 last week.

This is the second meeting between the sides in three seasons after they clashed in the 2020-21 group stage.

Double Chance: Ajax Or Draw

8/5 (Unibet)

Both of the matches two seasons ago ended in 1-0 wins for Liverpool. The showings from Liverpool early in 2022-23 do not suggest they will repeat such a result.

Napoli tormented the 2022 FA Cup winners, and Ajax’s attack can be every bit as dangerous. They registered over 75 per cent possession and 17 shots against Rangers, and were free-scoring in the Champions League last season, despite falling at the group stage.

Total Goals: Over 3.5

21/20 (Unibet)

Their matches in 2020-21 might have combined for just two goals, but this Liverpool team is nowhere near as solid defensively. A repeat of the 4-1 defeat in Naples is unlikely, though a high-scoring game is expected.

Ajax have scored 13 goals in their last three matches and will be able to exploit a Liverpool defence which is clearly low on confidence. Joe Gomez will surely be dropped, while Andrew Robertson has joined a lengthy injury list.

There’s decent value on over 3.5.

Anytime Goalscorer: Steven Bergwijn

7/2 (Bet365)

Former Spurs man Steven Bergwijn has started the season in fine form, scoring eight goals already, including three in his last three appearances. Expected to operate from the left flank once again, Bergwijn has the opportunity to exploit space behind Trent Alexander-Arnold and attack the weaker side of Liverpool’s defence.

A frequent outlet in the win over Rangers with four completed dribbles and three shots, Ajax will look to get the ball to Bergwijn often on Tuesday night. Given how Alexander-Arnold struggled defensively against Napoli, this is a good price on Bergwijn to add to his tally.
