Aristocrat Acquires Casual Gaming Big Fish Games

Aristocrat Leisure Limited is an Australian gambling machine developer hailing from North Ryde, Sydney, Australia. They’re one of the biggest manufacturers of slot machines in the world. And currently, see their only rival as International Game Technology. They’re known for bringing games such as Queen of the Nile and Cash Express to the market. The latest news at the back end of last year was that they looked set to take over casual gaming company Big Fish Games who are based in Seattle, Washington, United States.

Price Tag of $900m

Well, that became a reality a matter of days ago with Aristocrat said to have tied up a $900m purchase of the social gaming company. Big Fish Games have been in operation for over 15 years. In that time the company has developed a reputation for developing and distributing games for both computers and mobile devices. They’ve excelled at publishing free to play games in the social casino and social gaming markets, as well as the premium paid games sector too.

Aristocrat Values Social Gaming

It comes as no surprise that a company such as Aristocrat saw the huge potential in performing a buyout of Big Fish Games, especially with social gaming and more importantly for them, social casinos, on the rise. Aristocrat is already well accustomed to the gambling industry being key players themselves. However, this move now means they will ultimately be the second biggest social casino publisher on the planet as things stand, having posted revenues in the third quarter of 2017 exceeding Aus$640m.

Great Deal For All Parties

The real success story of this deal is that it is the meeting of two industry giants. Aristocrat is one of the biggest land-based slot developers in the industry. Whilst Big Fish Games are one of the largest and most successful companies when it comes to social gaming, social casinos and their involvement in the digital world. Therefore, it is a move that will pay dividends for both. As they’ll be able to glean vital information and expertise to improve the efficiency as well as the capabilities of the business as a whole. They will be key players in the land-based sector as well as digitally.

It’s believed that Big Fish Games, while under Aristocrat’s growing umbrella, will operate as a standalone business. This strategy is similar to the likes of Product Madness and another recently acquired company in Plarium. It certainly seems that Aristocrat is looking to become a major player in the gambling and gaming industry, both land-based and online. The group are adding companies to their portfolio, who not only complement each other; but have the expertise to help develop each other too.

Social Casinos On The Rise

There is no doubt that social gaming and social casinos are on the rise. This is indeed the case,  especially through the likes of social media platforms such as Facebook. People want to be able to play online games, often in a browser or by connecting with their friends. Big Fish Games are leaders in this area and have constantly delivered quality content. Therefore, Aristocrat will now be able to benefit from their new acquisition, in terms of knowledge and experience; which will strengthen the group as a whole as it moves into a new digital era.
